If only he'd personally "communicated greatly" with them when in ministerial position, he could have found answers to all his questions.

Really coming across as sour grapes now imo.

problem is he thinks he is above speaking to people directly  he could have had Crogga  officials in and spoken to them ,regarding their project , but no thats not how he works  , typical  of someone  who has never delivered anything only bullshit  now he is digging a hole for himself

Presumably Mr Thomas wants the public to understand what is going on with Crogga licence etc.

How Alf dived in to sort it all for his big business buddies, found it to be a legal minefield, and, not for the first time, got out of the pool quick smart.

Some of Chris Thomas’s Crogga questions to both the Chair of the Energy Policy Board and the current Minister in charge of DOI are, IMHO, confusing, e.g., his first question “What the potential cost(s) and benefits are to the Manx public purse of varying Crogga's licence to allow drilling without a 3D seismic survey?”. The 3D seismic surveys are commonplace in oil and gas exploration industry, but they don’t remove all project risks and don’t guarantee successful drilling - they improve the odds of having a successful project by providing more detailed information than 2D surveys about the geology of the site to optimally locate planned test wells. Unless Crogga will be required to pay a fee to the IOMG for undertaking/ not undertaking a 3D survey, this activity will not have any impact on the “Manx public purse.” As I understand it (from publicly available information), all of the costs of this project are being borne by Crogga. If Crogga chooses not to conduct a 3D survey, then they will incur greater project risks but there will be no financial consequences for the IOMG.

He also asks “What the quality is of the seismic data available to Crogga; and what risks arise, as a consequence of that quality, when drilling for gas?” This question is a bit of a mumble. When asking about the risks arsing “as a consequence of that (I infer inadequate) quality …” is Thomas hinting that he thinks that the quality of the data that Crogga has is not good enough? The IOMG/ DOI have no experience or expertise in evaluating whether seismic survey data is adequate. These are operational questions that only the experts, either within or external to Crogga, can form meaningful opinions about. So why then, at this stage, should he or the IOMG be concerned about the quality of Crogga’s data? Of course, whether this project should go ahead at all is another matter. It is just a guess, but he seems to be concerned that because the IOMG is dealing with a relative ‘start-up’ and not the likes of BP or Shell, which have deep pockets, that the IOMG could become exposed to some unknown financial and environmental risks. Perhaps, in the back of his mind, there is a fear that the Crogga project could turn out to be another Liverpool Dock financial shambles…if in his Minister for Policy and Reform (in the previous Administration) heyday he had properly checked under the ‘hood’ of the Liverpool Dock project and understood what was actually going on, we might have ended up with a different result.

I’d also like to know how much of the information Thomas is now asking for was available to him when he was the Minister in charge of DOI, and if not why not?  Maybe then he was too busy with his £300m Airport plan (hopefully it wasn’t to pay off the disgruntled Deputy Director) to have bothered about these Crogga issues. Afterall, no one in Tynwald bothered to ask him to clarify his Airport plan, they merely took his word for it that "our Airport is not very good”.

He has, as a one-man opposition party, also been on Manx Radio discussing the “government’s (undisclosed) debt” which he estimated to be circa £1b. Surely, he must have been aware of this for a long time and could have raised as an issue sooner? https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/mhk-seeks-greater-transparency-over-huge-amount-of-public-borrowing/
