I am sorry but why do we need another gov dept to start property development? If the sites could be built on economically, one of the developers here would have done it already. This looks like old manx mafia money owning stuff and wanting too much for its sale, that includes the government itself, overvaluing land. The old Summerland site should be "sold" with a multi million grant enough to sort out the cliff and a promise that the planning dept wont screw it up. Same for the nurses home site. Should have been gifted and let the free market take care of it. Can you imagine how many wannabe property developers in the CS are now sitting well chuffed smoking a cigar thinking they are the new Dandara...............Between 9am and 4:30pm weekdays with their phones turned off at other times, just like the private sector do... The MDC is just wrong, very very wrong. Sadly, it is also a very public show to the wider word that our economy does not work and that it is wholly reliant on VAT overpayments.

The exact same thing happened on the other side of the quay You have a developer willing to spend millions but they stuck some kind of preservation order on the old Trafalgar pub. A proper shithole and of no use to anyone and incapable of being made useful because its shape and that half of it is below ground so very damp. I am sure this will have been part of the reason that site has sat doing nothing for a couple of years and looks like a bomb hit it. That call from planning was/ is just as bad at the old Newson's building

MEA are over £1/2 to 3/4 a million a week out of pocket at the moment, I am told from well connected person. That can't continue for long. They will have to up their prices. Basic economics Same for Manx Gas prices, they have to go up by, at a guess 65% TO COVER COSTS. It is all very well saying this and that are making fortunes but in the current world climate for fuel we are not immune. The retail cost of electric and gas will have to increase by nearly 100% from current rates to make things viable. Look at the UK -- Last year spring time about a £1,200 price cap next spring over £3,000 price cap forecast.

I think that is more to do with the youth of today not wanting to do heavy manual work, no disrespect meant to youth. 30 Years ago if you were not academic you went into construction, now there are lots more ways to earn a crust than lifting heavy weights in all weathers on a muddy site.

It used to function well before the gov stepped in as they do and took "control" There was always a problem with young 'uns drinking too much and making a noise but the Police were always called and they shut up. I have applied for a permit to camp there and it is just not worth the hassle, having to pay a fee then telling some no mark CS that you plan to go this and that date etc, it ruins the spontaneity of camping. I now just drive as far off the road as possible in the hills and do wild camping.

Government launches ill thought out policy - Shocker.................. FFS what are they playing at? You cant properly insulate most existing buildings without ridiculous amounts of money. You cant put in Ground or Air sourced heat pumps without £12K -£15K min expenditure, MORE LIKE £20k Why is this even a thing? Make all new builds super insulated and install a new interconnector to bring in green electric. Job done.
