  1. It should never have been listed. Anti progress nutjobs on this island and in 'important' jobs. It is hard not to think that the planning department is actually corrupt. Watch as the insane glass and steel structure in a conservation zone gets planning for the Peggy.
  2. Yes this was a nuisance, I tried to do it on the computer but had to do it on the phone. Poor design.
  3. I'm taking the boy on Saturday, booked tickets (its free). Needed to go into Douglas anyway, looks smart enough and its something to do. St Thomas's Church itself is pretty impressive anyway inside, he might not remember being in there before, its been a while.
  4. We've had this argument before, it is very flawed. I know that you can mess around with your codes, but 10 - 15 hours a week waitressing for a 18yr old basic office girl is pointless, and you work those extra hours for extra cash and lose a third. It is inarguably a disincentive to take on that work.
  5. 22% tax on second jobs has kicked in this month too, another great incentive to take on extra work brought to you by financial geniuses
  6. It's another example of excessive regulation, but because it was brought in by an ex-copper who was head of the alcohol unit for a while you cannot question it. This is what he has decided is necessary, because he is an 'expert'. 'Manx solutions etc.' Pay up.
  7. Shopping for misanthropes "No thats bollocks" says crazydave before listing his hatred of people going about their lives having the temerity to hold up his super busy one. Great.
  8. It is not training that is the burden. What they are rightfully complaining about here is Constable Kens alcohol awareness course, and there absolutely needs to be push back on this. This is an extra career and profit opportunity entirely invented by a former police officer. He has created a course which all responsible persons must attend. It is expensive and lasts two days. In this course constable ken 'teaches' people who have sold alcohol for thirty years how to prepare their premises for a CS Gas attack. Of course everyone wants pubs, clubs and off licences to have responsible staff, trained in how to spot potential issues and head them off, to be aware of the law and not to sell alcohol to people who shouldn't have it. But that training already existed before the rules got changed, and this expensive, unnecessary and very petty mandatory course was invented. A common complaint over the years has been one of 'double dipping'. I'd argue that inventing a problem for which you and only you have the solution and then forcing everyone to pay for it through some legislation changes that magically happened without anyone really noticing is worse.
  9. They should relax the punitive approach to part time work for people on incapacity.
  10. I read about the ability to change alcohol duty on locally produced products a while ago, but I've never been able to find it again. I had always thought that because of the common purse agreement we were kind of stuck with English and Welsh rates but it's not true. There's a clause. That is something that should happen immediately.
  11. Loads of people were working from home for a period of time, there will probably be loads of this kind of thing if you think about it. Not all of it nefarious.
  12. Puritans should be fucking shot. Your body is riddled with opioid receptors. Humans have evolved to use the poppy plant. Prohibition doesn't work.
  13. Ethics full stop. The worldwide meat industry is disgusting. Here on the Isle of Man we have the opportunity to have 'field to slaughter' in very little time and very few miles. It should be a selling point.
  14. Everyone jumps into bed with the Saudis though, they funded 9/11 and murdered a journalist and cut him up!
  15. Nothing, he hadn't done anything, someone just fancied being a dick to him and its since been taken down.

    Weather

Well, they're always having a wobble. Too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, too windy, too nice, doesn't matter, its just a farmer thing They have had a really tough time of it lambing this year though, I know that.
  17. I don't know if Sarah Maltby is a good or bad MHK, but I do think its a shame she stood and got in as I think Paul Quine would have been decent, and the short spell he had wasn't long enough. Democracy in action.

    Weather

As someone who works mostly outside this year has been really tough so far. While I don't think we've had anything exceptional it has been relentlessly bleak. Normally I get days in Feb and March I can work in a T-shirt. That just hasn't happened, I've been so wet so often. But its OK, spring is here now. Better days ahead at last. I'll be tanned in a month.
  19. If I remember rightly, one of the reasons for planning turning this down was that it would release carbon. Planning are dumb as fuck.
