Gladys
and so there is a strategy emerging and no doubt plans for a few hundred or more aprtments - see other thread later. Well, all I can say is you should be pleased, as a shareholder, that your board has a strategy. As an educated guess, it would seem that their strategy has something to do with buying up hotels. See, they don't fool me either!
Karellen
GFL on the radio this morning talking about raising standards of service, something this island desperately needs. I was interested in his plans for the Castle Mona - getting rid of all the recent additions to the building and making it a 5-star mansion house hotel. Apparently Jersey has 3 five star hotels, we have none. From personal experience I know that this lack of quality accommodation puts people off from coming here for business - the sort of people who can invest in the island and create jobs and opportunities. copycat
nah still think its a property development strategy more so than a long term hotel business strategy & using the Sefton cos its already a plc. and how come this thread is still going and not merged into the longer existing Sefton thread? Slim
What's the significance of it being a PLC? I doubt anyone in their right mind would turn the islands only and lucrative casino license into apartments.
Deejay Denzel
Does that mean Sefton own that whole area? castlemona, Cinema and Palace/Hilton Hotel? What a great big patch of land for an entertainment (cinema's/Casino/Bars/Clubs/shops) complex with underground multistorey parking! to service itself and the Castlemona. Now that would be nice and stop the rot.
fatshaft
nah still think its a property development strategy more so than a long term hotel business strategy & using the Sefton cos its already a plc. and how come this thread is still going and not merged into the longer existing Sefton thread? As slim says, not a chance Outline planning approval was granted in April last year for a joint project from the Sefton Hotel and Gala Hilton for a 190-bed hotel. Mr Lacey said: 'It is the Sefton Group's intention over the next five years to have replaced the existing Gala Hilton Hotel with a brand new four star-plus Hilton Hotel and Casino, which will be the first brand new, purpose built four star hotel in Douglas for 50 years.' He added: 'Now that we have completed the acquisition of the Gala Hilton we will proceed in earnest with the preparation of a detailed planning application for a complex that will consist of no less than 150 bedrooms, restaurants, bars, health spa, four screen multiplex cinema, car parking and 10 fantastic suites in an iconic building encompassing the Middlemarch site fronted by Lord Street, Walpole Avenue, Victoria Street and Fort Lane.' It may be that that site will be redeveloped once the casino has been moved, but you'll see an increase in hotel space, not a reduction.

John Wright
I am led to believe that GFL and Sefton are going to agressively expand hotel side with an extra 30 beds at the Sefton Express and of course the new hotel/cinema/casino opposite the bus station. Plus the old Castlemona will be refurbished and lose its 1960's add ons, from when it was the original casino, run by the Americans. Losing that wing will open up the access to the cinema and its carpark. There may be space for up to 250 new apartments on that elevated area alone. The running of the Palace would be unaffected Gala made it known a while ago that they were divesting all of their 3 star properties (AA or RAC). My suspicion is that perhaps the 1960's Palace is past its sell by date, not worth the investment, and they were warned that without massive investment they would be downgraded come next inspection. That then leaves a two level site, the existing car park and the hotel for a shops at ground floor, underground parking and hotel and apartmernt plan as well. Of course there would have to be Governemnt agreement to move the Casino to the town centre, temporarily, into the new Sefton development, pending a new hotel and casino complex on the prom Only my thoughts and opinion, but it looks a logical fit and deal. With a building firm in house as well development is a possible doddle. All subject to pp and regulatory approval of course.
guardone
Whatever they do on hotel expansion, they will need more car parking space. The prom is now so congested that plans must allow for sufficent parking off the road. However, only an idiot would build an underground car park within site of the prom, it WILL flood, guaranteed. mojomonkey
but there will be the new Govt multi-storey car park built across the road staring the year after next so why go underground Nope once again you've just resorted to typing random words. What are you trying to say? Did you go school? Perhaps you're still at school, that would explain quite a bit.
