guzzi Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 The Electoral College meets today. From the NY Times: Do electors have to vote according to popular vote results in their states? Not necessarily. At least one elector has said he will buck his party and not vote for Mr. Trump. Nothing in the Constitution, or in federal law, binds electors to vote a particular way. There are some state laws that bind them to vote according to the popular vote outcome in that state; others are bound by more informal pledges to their party. Quote

Tarne Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Oh and just to make you laugh on the electors, two didn't vote for Trump on the end. Funny bit is four Democrats then didn't vote for Hillary Quote

There are a lot of ways to measure economic inequality (and we’ll be discussing more on Fact Tank), but one basic approach is to look at how much income flows to groups at different steps on the economic ladder. http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/press-past/2013/03/19/10-years-ago-the-us-invaded-iraq But the start of the Iraq war 10 years ago was different. President George W. Bush and his spokesmen predicted with unusual aggressiveness that America would prevail relatively easily, and Bush strategists forecast that the Iraqis would welcome their liberators with open arms as they headed to a bright future. It didn't turn out quite that way. The U.S. "shock and awe" campaign, which included massive bombardment and an invasion by America's brilliant military, went well at first. And many Iraqis did welcome the Americans initially, expressing jubilation at the overthrow of brutal dictator Saddam Hussein. But over time, the age-old divisions in Iraqi society resurface and it became clear that the Bush administration had badly under-estimated what it would take to complete the invasion successfully and establish a stable, prosperous and democratic society. Even today, 10 years later, after the loss of 4,488 American lives and more than 100,000 Iraqi lives (some estimates are far higher), with more than 32,000 Americans wounded, and $2 trillion in financial costs to the United States, the fate of Iraq is not clear. And 58 per cent of Americans say the war was not worth fighting, according to the latest ABC News poll. http://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/kremlin-names-trump-employee-of-the-month “No one has worked more tirelessly for the glory of the Fatherland than Donald Trump,” the Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an official statement. “He has set a high bar for all Kremlin employees, and for that, we salute him.” To mark the honor, Trump’s name will be added to a plaque that hangs in the hallway outside the Kremlin’s H.R. office. According to Kremlin sources, Trump faced tough competition in the Employee of the Month voting, besting both Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and ExxonMobil’s C.E.O., Rex Tillerson. http://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/putin-to-sing-at-trump-inauguration n a brief statement from the Kremlin, Putin said, “I will be most delighted to perform for my comrade.” The choice of Putin raised eyebrows in Washington, since the Russian, while famous for invading neighboring countries and imprisoning political opponents, is not particularly well known as a singer. The Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway pushed back against such criticism during an appearance on CNN. “If we limited ourselves to people who had talent and experience, that would disqualify half of our Cabinet,” she said. Putin’s choice of musical material also stirred controversy, as politicians on both sides of the aisle questioned his plan to perform the Russian national anthem. Quote
