Pubs closing

The brewery needs to move away from alcohol and into coffee. We don't have enough coffee shops of the island.

My local was quite full outside this morning with people drinking coffee and tea. More profit in a decent coffee than a pint of Tribute according to the landlord.

The building is rotten from the 1st floor up and has been since the days when Bobby Gaines was manager. The Market Place facade, if not more of the building, is registered, in 1992. It's a property liability that cannot be modified and would cost a fortune to restore. So what to do? Leave it to rot a la Castle Mona without enforcement? Easy option.

Those were very busy days. Wednesday - Saturday. All busy.

It's quite a statement that a pub like the Pinewood in the middle of Pulrose cannot stay open.

The only logical conclusion is that the brewery is pretty much getting out of the licensing trade. It must be making up a smaller and smaller percentage of their business. Won't be long before they cease to make beer here and just import everything.

I know its pretty unfashionable to defend the brewery, but the quality of their beer increased enormously a few years ago. The bottled stuff is tremendous, especially the 1907, and the MPA that you sometimes get in the pub is absolutely superb. Even their standard bitter is drinkable most of the time, frequently not the case 10 years ago.
