£2m to 'Save the Horse Trams' (don't worry, not tax-payer's money)

Personally I'd get rid of them. It would seem that a considerable number of peep would like to keep them.

Realistically, they are an anachronism that has no place in a modern roadway, if the journey is to be cut in half would not a single track be adequate for a reduced service? It only operates for 5? months and that could probably be cut to save costs. 60,000 pax over a season? That would mean every tram would be full to the gunwales!!! I don't think so.

The tram society say the reduces rout could be the end of the trams, so why spend money on them?

Before twin tracks are put in, stables and storrage shed are built at great expense, perhaps time to have another long hard look at whether is is worth it?

It's unbelievable. Like Paris Forums debating whether to cut the Eiffel Tower down to half its height or demolish it altogether. Well it's only a heap of 19th century scrap metal. No place in the 21st century. And that Arc de Triomphe monstrosity. The traffic problems it causes. Get rid and build an underpass.

Cobblers.

The Eiffel tower is world-famous, an icon in a magnificent city. The horse trams - a piece of history in an unloved, scruffy seaside town.

It's a toughie !!

An expensive obsolete reminder of days gone by ,or a valuable tourist attraction and part of the reason the Isle of Man is unique in lots of ways ?

Can't we just sack half the Tourist board(Or whatever they're called these days?) as i don't recall anything they've actually achieved a lot in the past 2 decades ?

While we're at it get rid of DDP , together that''s got to save a couple of Mill surely?

IOM gov currentlyis stuffed full to the gunnels of useless liggers that contribute the sum total of sweet fa !!

Surely it depends on the long term tourism vision of the island?

If that vision isn't built in some way around our heritage then you dispense with them. Along with the MER lines to Ramsey and Snaefell. And probably a fair few other things that do not wipe their face financially relating to our history.

Personally the flow of traffic argument isn't relevant. It causes no real issue at the moment.

A single track with passing would work fine. As long as Doyglas Rate Payers are not picking up the tab it's fine.

As usual, you're backing the wrong horse on this one. But then you'll change your mind in a couple of pages to get with the winning side.

A bit like you perhaps in relation to your views on the future president of the USA ?flowers.giflaugh.png
