dilligaf
We went to Ramsey along the coast road today as it was thick fog and thought the mountain may be even worse. I could not believe the amount of drivers who only used their side / parking lights. Only met 2 cars using fog lights during the whole trip with most using dipped beam and one CLOWN driving a newish Land Rover (dark green ) had NO LIGHTS at all and appeared out of nowhere. Why don't drivers use the appropriate lighting?
finlo
Most fuckwits put their rear fogs on as soon as they spot fog on the horizon much to my retina's dismay.
TheTeapot
Because they're stupid.
Terminal
Front fog lights are completely pointless and do nothing but annoy other drivers. Rear fog lights should only be used when you're in fog with nobody behind you and should be switched off as soon as you have a car behind. Ps this is my opinion based on 25 years of driving over the mountain road every day and not what the highway code says.
woolley
It was very foggy around the Island today and there was a staggering number of vehicles with no lights on at all. I'm not in favour of lights on a clear day, even if dull, but today was not one of those days. Nutters.
Bobbie Bobster
Blimey Charlie, make your mind up woollster!
woolley
You need 'em in fog to be seen. No issue with that. That's consistent with what I've said before............
Bobbie Bobster
Lights on, lights off, it's like a blooming mobile disco when you're on the road.
Shake me up Judy
Of course people should use their lights, but remember that they're not display accessories to be worn at all times. Lights for some drivers are 'look at me' auto bling and switched on at every opportunity.
Gladys
We asked my granddaughter yesterday what the weather was, she said it was soggy. We didn't correct her.
Bobbie Bobster
I would prefer 'look at me' to 'I just didn't see you, mate' any day! Anyhow, hope the weather is less soggy today so Captain Flybe can make it in this afternoon.
wrighty
Fog lights should be wired up to the speedo/ECU such that they're either switched off if you travel at more than say 20mph, or, if switched on your speed is limited to 20mph. Dipped headlights should be on at all times (sorry Woolley) because a significant number of drivers can't be relied upon to use then correctly rendering silver/grey cars virtually invisible on many days of the year with our grey Manx weather. Bobbie Bobster
@wrighty The speed-related switch is interesting, but difficult in practice, I guess. What if you're lastmost behind a nervous mountain road driver in thick fog at 26mph; I'd like my rear fogs on in that scenario.
momo65
My car has automatic headlights. It switches them on and off depending on ambient light, and even swaps between dip and main beam depending on traffic. However, what they don't do is switch on in fog if its daylight. You get so used to them just doing their own thing that you can easily forget to switch them on manually. So, I suspect it may become a more common problem, as more cars have them. Unintended consequences of technological advances.
notwell
I drove up to Ramsey yesterday. My main thought was that some people should just stay off the road if they don't know where they are going. On a plus point happy to be able to cut through old Laxey again.
