Declan
It is a failure of Obama that he wasn't able to address this. Whilst he was thwarted regularly by the Republicans in his attempts, I can't help thinking that a great President - a Lincoln or a Roosevelt would have found away to convince them of the need for change. Well they would have had the advantage of being white...plus the Republicans were in the majority in the Senate and the House. Add in the fact that the NRA is a major Republican donator. Obama could have shat out pure gold and that wouldn't have made a difference in the gun debate. While the gun lobby has the money to "enforce" policy via lobbying and donations, the gun problem in America is never going away. Don't forget after Sandy Hook, local gun sales went up because people wanted "protection".
quilp
Obama went ahead with the fallacy he could introduce stricter laws, knowing full well it was an impossible task. It was a red-herring, a political sticking-plaster. That country is awash with legally and illegally held weaponry. Too mammoth a task to undertake, too much opposition to overcome. mojomonkey
Really don't think this is anything to do with "arabic descent", sadly just another sad loser with too easy access to lethal weapons. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-43071710

Would those necessary changes make any difference to weapons that are off the record and readily available if someone seriously wants one? Bad people are gonna do bad things. Then the issue raises it head again every time some nutcase decides to go rampage and politicians make mileage out of it only for it to go on the back-burner till the next time. This is a good point it's hard to do and wont stop 100% of gun crime so it's probably not worth doing anything at all. While we're at it almost all crimes still happen to some degree so we should probably just get rid of all laws because they don't stop 100% of crime, then at least we can save money not having a legal system.
