Desperate stuff, Pongo. I expect far better.

Arlene will likely be the last DUP First Minister. Trends and demographics.

Makes sense really. Imagine East Sussex was still governed from Normandy.

I suppose I could if Sussex was populated by ugly loudmouth Normans. Quite easily in fact.

Doubt it. Gonna take longer than that. And again, they know which side their bread's buttered. Who is going to pay for their bennies? Dublin? Brussels? Not likely.

Next? Well, watch your blood pressure now, because that’s NI and Scotland leaving the U.K. of course. After that it’s Gibraltar, the Channel Islands and us. Then it’s London, Wales and the North East getting their special dispensations, then it’s getting shafted in international trade followed by begging to rejoin on any terms. That’s if Brexit ever happens. That requires May’s team to first agree on what kind of unicorn it wants, and then sell the donkey they actually get to Parliament. Want a pineapple ring with that?

Dear, oh dear. You just HAVE to be Juncker trolling. What planet do you inhabit?

Gibraltar???? Leave the UK? Per-lease!

Two ‘dupicate’ replies and when you finally calm down enough to hit the right keys you start with ‘Dear, oh dear’ and end with ‘Per-lease’. Congratulations, you are the king of gammon, the reddest of the red whine, the cutest QT extra.

Typical liberal. Doesn't address the issue. Don't flatter yourself into believing that I am ever anything but calm when addressing you. You are certainly nothing to get excited about. As we've established previously, you know nothing about Gibraltar.

Re: gammon - see the gammon thread.

Duplicate posts - entirely down to the forum software. And of course once they are there it doesn't allow you to delete. Edit, yes. Delete, no.

Serious question: Why not just move to the EU? There are some very nice places. Warm too.

There is one seat difference between Sinn Fein and the DUP in the Assembly. And the SDLP have 12. Sinn Fein have now to gain only two seats to hold the majority. I could see the new generation leadership taking seats from the SDLP. And I could even see the UUP and DUP losing seats.*

So it seems very likely that all future First Ministers will be Sinn Fein. Unless the DUP can somehow modernise. They really seem stuck in the past and increasingly elderly in outlook. Look at the image they have created for themselves. They just don't seem focused on the future and they are unpopular with the farming community over the mess which is Brexit.

* which is extraordinary progress and a validation of the Civil Rights movement of 50 years ago. And of the Belfast Agreement. Everyone now has the right to vote and gerrymandering is no longer the issue that it was.

There are only two majority unionist counties left - Antrim and Down. Belfast itself elects Sinn Féin mayors. Northern Ireland has a basket-case economy and both sides are determined to keep it that way for now - the DUP because they are corrupt, have made careers out of sponging and know no other way, SF and the SDLP because they are enjoying taking the piss out the U.K. taxpayer and taking revenge on the U.K. by being the most expensive and awkward problem they can be for the Brits for as long as possible. If there’s any kind of hard border, It’ll probably be the younger generation of loyalists who push for re-unification first - knowing that in joining the  Republic they’ll be joining a country with almost double their current per capita income.

Just a minute. Ireland also has a basket case economy that has to be bailed out at regular intervals by eurozone or even UK taxpayers. Unemployment is stubborn at around 6%. Taxes are high. Services patchy. Yes. Average and median pay is historically high at the moment driven by shortages in certain high pay skill areas, but it isn't a long established trend. Would anyone bet their entire future on it staying that way? I wonder. But if that's what they want we shouldn't try to stand in their way. Say goodbye and good luck. No more money though. No more of the same mistakes made with other independent former Empire territories.

Not really. Just proves Catholics outbreed Protestants. Who knew?
