joeyconcrete
I think GTS are more competitive but I guess they’ll be constrained by civil service pay scales. Contractors will be a different matter, but that’s no different than private sector companies also having to source resource in that way (and there is real competition even for contractors!) In my experience egaming, datacentres and software tend to have a far higher base, but also benefits like bonuses, life insurance, healthcare, lunches, gym, etc.

joeyconcrete
There’s no real central point nowadays. It was the job centre, but most roles are spread across the various recruitment agencies, LinkedIn and on the company websites themselves. The bigger employers have quite well honed teams focused on recruitment... all face the challenge of getting people here. There’s also a lot of behind the scenes action, candidates being approached direct for roles not-yet-advertised. I don’t have massive exposure to hospitality, but I suspect the job centre and maybe even in specialist publications (if off island).
Donald Trumps
I've an interest in both areas & see little online advertising for senior roles in either sector It could just be that business folk on the IOM have little concept of what the internet can deliver for you Or that internet targeting is so sophisticated old farts like me don't get a look in

It's to be hoped that these donations will not be "confidential" , like those to the landowners, but I'm not holding my breath.

They're a bit specialist. Of course, they could take on another director for tourism, a couple of CS's , various executives, middle managers and clerical staff OOOh, bit like the Tourist Board but with a leaning to heritage??? OOOh Ian, we love your train set! I don't think so.
P.K.
I worked for several decades in a US multinational and I can assure everyone that as far as bullshit goes this from the other thread is absolutely world class: The creation of a dedicated Visit Isle of Man Executive Agency, whose purpose it is to realise the fullest economic growth potential as a visitor destination will lead the charge of focusing our tourism and leisure visitors. This public-private partnership is already well underway and looking at product development as well as new ideas for targeted promotion, building on the work the Department has historically undertaken, such as the launch of the Extraordinary Story earlier this year. The mixture of promotion, of product development as well as policy input will be hugely important in growing our visitor numbers and visitor spend. I am forced to assume that with visitor numbers at best static they have gone as far up the cost ladder as they can for "ideas people" to turn it around. Why? The tourist industry declined for well understood reasons. So there is absolutely no way they are ever going to improve numbers significantly enough to justify the extra cost. So the best thing they can do is look at what works best to retain market share and stick with it. You don't need a "dedicated Visit Isle of Man Executive Agency" to do that. If someone actually looked at the real £numbers I would bet Quayle's free money "farming" grants that the cost of all the people employed etc in this farrago would equate to a clearly unattainable number of extra visitors. So throwing taxpayers' money at those already in this "industry" to improve their bottom line is sheer folly. "How unusual" I hear you say..... asitis
I laugh at the hypocrisy of this drive to attract "taxpayers" to the island ! When they blew a wad of cash on the airport and attracted a low cost airline Easyjet, they were aware it would scupper Flybe's base, and hence about 100 good taxpaying jobs went to the UK and europe ! they never batted an eyelid then whilst dreaming of the 2.5 million passengers a year passing through our portals ! What planet are these imbeciles on ! Meanwhile they aim to support jobs paying little taxes by using taxpayers money !
