I bought a 5 storey wreck of a place in Islington , central London , way back for under £8K , current value around £2m....... just saying . There was a long running joke on his radio show - "Monkeys Dressed as Famous People Plus Fairground Music", so he's play fairground music and he'd announce like a maitre d' at a posh party ... "and now Sherlock Holmes ... ladies and gentlemen I present Princess Grace of Monaco ... and welcome Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis jnr." The basis of the joke being that chimps dressed as people are funny especially when they're dressed as someone you expect to be dignified or held in high regard. I think he saw the twitter post in the same context, without considering how it looks to those outside that world. I'm pretty sure he bought the house in the 80's - I doubt his income in the last decade has been regular enough to afford him to buy a £2m house. He should absolutely have known better, but anyone who has listened to him over his career, and as the many people who know him have vouched, Danny doesn't have a racist bone or brain cell in his body. He should've been given an old fashioned carpeting but not thrown to the diversity agenda police and the spineless suits at the BBC. This is why many people no longer trust the nation's broadcaster to represent the people and give us an unfiltered view of the world. Shake me up Judy Posted June 13, 2019 Share Posted June 13, 2019 Days after it was broadcast, the BBC are still defending the 'edgy comedy' of the jovial Jo Brand (61) for her 'joke' about throwing battery acid at Brexiteers. Within 24 hours they sacked the 61 year old presenter Danny Baker for tweeting a picture of a chimpanzee which the BBC deemed to be racist against the royal baby. He had removed the image within ten minutes and apologised publicly and profusely for his insensitivity and unwitting stupidity. Maybe wonder what the outrage/reaction might have been had Farage, Boris, or Tommy Robinson uttered it? A "daft joke?" Some poor sod was jailed for teaching his girlfriends dog to perform the fascist salute as a result of another, equally "daft joke." Humour is subjective, as is the concept of offence. It depends who's doing the joking and who's doing the listening. Having done a search, I can't find anything indicating Brand withdrawing what she said, only stories that she refuses to apologise and can't understand what all the fuss is about, and good old auntie standing by her, claiming the edgy stuff is all part of the programme. Anyhow, something can never be un-said, so her "daft joke" isn't really withdrawable. Is it not reasonable then to also consider the feelings of those actual victims of acid attacks?
