We have heard of proposals at the airport which will make the MEA debt look like pocket change if true !

They all need striking with a large reality stick !!

Let me guess...a deep water berth!

Seaplanes ?

A huge airside shopping mall to "ambush market" Skelly's trinkets and tat to departing passengers subjected to repeated flight delays?

A nice flat piece of land  with reliable weather data where they can put a big windfarm?

Castletown, Ballasalla and Scarlet roads to be dug out and canals built to improve its tourism.

A Cruise terminal will be built at Derbyhaven to cater for 12 cruise ships a week.

The airport carpark will become a park and sail system, to the shops, bars and street theatre of the areas, and transfers to the cruise ships.

The airport itself is set to become a cruise/flight terminal, handling 1000000000000 passengers a year wishing to join the cruises, or departing the cruises to go home.

To accommodate all this, an extra security scanner will be placed on standby and the second baggage reclaim belt will be polished.

.........or perhaps just the return of the fruit and flower shop?

There might actually be the basis of a good idea here - Derbyhaven was at one time intended to develop hence the construction of the breakwater - though the beach is probably gently sloping, hence its attraction to the Norse and early Derby Lords as a landing place, protected from South Westerlies, there may well be sufficient deep water to handle the smaller cruise ships - we had 2 in Peel within the last 10 days though one, Canadian Adventurer, stood outside the harbour + launched a couple of kayaks from what appears to to an integral slipway in the side.

It, like Peel, is a much more attractive place than the dump that is Douglas and I suspect much more the sort of place that would attract visitors

Derbyhaven dries out at low tide to the breakwater, so there's not the depth.
