Black Lives Matter

What kind interesting is that a drugged up individual engaged in committing a crime threw a wobbly and had to restrained.  He then calmed down and was escorted to the side of the street.  When he was helped to his feet but fought against being placed in a police car and once again had to be restrained and sadly died because illegal practices were employed by a very probably racist policeman acting contrary to published procedure it somehow morphed into a "black lives matter" thing when the only possible racist component was the individual whose actions may have been the cause of his death though the proof of that has yet to emerge in court.  (Probably were but innocent etc.)

But out of that comes the demand for "justice" which would have become clear in the inevitable inquest and trials.

These rioters don't want justice.  They want revenge.

What really disturbed me with the UK protests yesterday was that these so called 'activists' attacked police officers and shouted slogans at them, when UK cops kill extremely few people. Only 3 in 2019, one of which was a terrorist.

Technically this isn't about police killing people, but about deaths in police custody.  In the UK those average about 16 a year.  Black people seem over-represented in these figures, though that appears to stem from them being more likely to be arrested (which itself may reflect prejudices).  What is clear is, as in the US, how rare it is for anyone to be held accountable for such deaths - there's some interesting information and links in this recent piece by Craig Murray.

We should never forget the institutional racism and corruption in the Met which led to the scum who killed Stephen Lawrence walking free for so long.

I dont know about anyone else..  but any cause that participates in such acts of protests and the attacks on police outside Downing St over last few days - be it BLM, the eco nut or Brexit fanatics - really puts me off supporting them.

Every life matters. Irrespective or race or religion. What happened in the US with that police officer is disgusting and any kind of prejudice against a race or religion is wrong. But stay the fuck at home and don't start physically attacking those you are trying to convince to make change.

You sound like Stu. As only 3 people were killed in the UK everything is fine but totally ignore that all the evidence that minorities in the UK tend to be targeted. Most of the videos you see of police in the UK being overly aggressive are white officers against black civilians. That is not to tar all police like most of society it is only a minority who cause the problem.

They are often trying to stop or solve black on black crime though.

And proportionately more likely to commit crime, of course, whatever the underlying causes. So naturally, more likely to be arrested.

But that crime might be a side-effect of getting arrested in itself.  Compare Gary Roberts comments about stopping and searching cars with young people leading to increased cannabis convictions, even if you do it at random, because a high percentage of young people happen to have cannabis on them.  If you stop and search more black than white people, then you'd convict a higher percentage of blacks even if the percentage with cannabis in both groups was the same.

I'm not sure why you're trying to twist George Floyd's death into evidence that there isn't systemic racism in the US police force.

There's systemic being a complete bastard in the US police force too, while I'm at it.
