  1. The scheme is already available and has been for years. The one we used is UK based, and double checked no problems with IoM property. Simple and straightforward. At the end of the tenancy, if there are any arguments then they are put to all parties and the TDP scheme makes a decision and takes further argument if necessary after that I have been involved with a few situations and it's been alright. The schemes work. I am sure there are some troublesome cases. All landlords and tenants should do this. It is law in UK, voluntary here. I can't understand how it is an issue. I don't think IoM government are capable to run this which they would have to if it became law. So both parties, I highly recommend do it voluntary, it's good for all.
  2. In UK, rent deposits have to be put in a Tenancy Deposit Protection scheme. I am surprised that is not the case here. Our IoM property we used a UK scheme, no problem. End of tenancy everything is put in their hands if there is a dispute. It is free and easy to use. I suppose all that is lost is the interest, which is a small price to pay. https://www.gov.uk/tenancy-deposit-protection
  3. I think they are rather jolly.
  4. Not necessarily. An intelligent enough person may reasonably enough deduce the tide one day is similar to the tide the next day, and even read a tide table that there might be about an hour difference. Whereas it is more likely the day after next is nearer the low tide height, and two hours difference. Then there is the wind direction and atmospheric pressure to consider. Through scuba diving, I can speak for hours about my experiences with tides and tide tables. I am great fun at parties by the way
  5. There have been occasions when people have wondered out there as the tide was coming in and got stranded. Unless you know the tides it is not as straightforward as it might seem.
  6. In a nutshell, apeak to your MHK. If they or you can get a majority of Tynwald to agree in principle then there can be a vote for a debate. Be careful what you wish for.
  7. More General Chat but if you can make it Local News well done.
  8. Our system has little/no party politics. Many complain about the CoMin block vote. A formal group of backbenchers can be effective.
  9. How about: Alliance For Progressive Government (APG). If that doesn't work try: Alternative Policy Group (APG). Or was it the other way round? See Brenda for further details. Or closer to home Billy Boy.
  10. The so-called Guild is a deep anachronism. Quaint and all that but essentially a vehicle for an elitist clique. Incidentally, it would not have survived without the sponsorship of Dandara, who spotted a powerful investment.

    TT 2024

Indeed it's not. I said it was a reasonable idea to try and make people adopt 'TT Fortnight' instead of 'TT Week' but there seems to be something ingrained here, including local and national/international press and social media. And actually, as far as the general population is concerned, including pubs, most of Practice Week is little different than any of the weeks prior. In fact there has become a clear take-up of huge numbers making it 'TT Weekend', albeit an extended Friday - Monday weekend.

    TT 2024

A few years back 'they' tried to indoctrinate everyone into calling it TT Fortnight rather than TT Week but it didn't work. I suppose it was a reasonable idea, then they had to fuck around with the deeply iconic road signs including the colour, because apparently that's how things are done. Rebranding and all that, which to me in this case is a waste of money, needless, and highly irritating.
  13. All these people who do Kung Fu stuff seem to be pumped up knife edge psychos.
  14. We nearly got The King's Speech you know.
  15. The point would be to make 'the pie' bigger though. Which is where government accountants/economists come in rather than Steam Packet itself. But yes, it's a tricky concept

    STEM

Hah, good one. I note She overturned a Planning Inspectors appeal decision recently. Michelle the Mouth knows best. More potentially dangerous than any of them.

  19. Was a rep from 1886 or Jaks at the meeting?
  20. Salmon originally for the poor too. But since that farmed shite I can't believe anyone eats it. I suppose as long as it looks ok who cares.
  21. That's PR guff. Apologies for the cynicism. Perhaps we could keep a general log record here for reference. I appreciate that it is a difficult situation but I think clarity and a better degree of certainty is required.
  22. No need judging by the post above. The post is absolutely spot on and everyone is imagining things.
  23. Banker must have a huge amount of Royal Mail privatisation shares, and is likely a very greedy barstard that cares not for the plight of others. I have highlighted elsewhere how our on-island business can no longer continue due to the mail situation. We could no longer compete. The mail plane was stopped in around October, which meant up until then, and all being well, mail delivered in Douglas up to close of business arrived in the Birmingham mail hub that late evening/night. Now it relies on the boat as well as that traie da looary thingy. Royal mail made the unilateral decision to stop the plane with little or no consultation with Isle of Man post, I understand. The Isle of Man has become a backwater again. But it will keep Royal Mail greedy shareholders happy.
