90% of the people in the group have non-white friends.

Christ this is starting to sound like a focus group again. Why is that relevant even if it is true (it can't possibly be accurately verified). What a load of happy-clappy liberal bollocks invented by the school to not sound so bad.

If I was BHS I'd be more worried about their non existent levels of literacy than trying to put a not so bad spin on what is illiterate rubbish posted by kids that generally appear to be borderline subnormal anyway.

Where did that come from?! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the literacy at Ballakermeen. We don't teach text or street talk which is what appeared on the Facebook page so I'd be very interested to know the basis of that opinion - also consider where that kind of language comes from if not from within a school? As for trying to put a "not so bad spin" on the situation common sense show tell you that it is a matter of trying to defuse what some people seem determined to blow further out of proportion - and even then look at the level of attention it's been given.

Ok -for the record and before anybody climbs back onto their pedestals to judge the school based upon a spelling error, I am not a teacher - please let's not go down that route.

You may think so. But then again you'd don't have to wade through the CV's of the swathes of functionally illiterate teenagers who think that they have a god given right to a job when they fail to grasp basic English despite leaving school with GCSE grades that look reasonable. Some of them are genuinely pitiful.

I think many employers would agree with me on that point.

Perhaps you could learn a sense of humour. That's how I saw it, funny.

Sorry for the misinterpretation Slinkydevil - I'm afraid I'm being very wary of anything I say being used to add fuel to what has become a rather unpleasant situation.

Why are you an official government spokesman? Why else would anyone be wary about anything they said being used for anything?

I honestly wouldn't know as I've not been in that situation. Surely leaving school with good GCSE grades (obtained through exams set by external bodies) shows that these people are certainly capable of demonstrating good use of language. It is how they use these skills on a personal level that is the issue.

Would a government spokesman come onto a chat forum to discuss this?! It is because I am NOT a spokesperson that gives me reason not to agitate the situation - the DoE and BHS have already made their comments.

Look, I work at Ballakermeen, I enjoy working at Ballakermeen, it's a great place full of great people as I'm sure all the schools are. The unfortunate views of a few people (who I might add are no longer students of the school) have put a dark cloud over the reputation of the school - and I would ask you to please remember that despite this there are a lot of hard working, caring individuals both students and staff who really shouldn't have to feel the shame of seeing headlines such as those that came out today splattered all over the internet and newspapers.

You'd think so but it does not seem to happen. For years its been about meeting targets and benchmarks not teaching kids what they need to know. I could show you a handful of CVs I have had recently and if my own kids had written them I'd be totally embarrassed. Its easy to see why foreign nationals are so highly prized - they have learned English properly and not had it polluted by text speak and all the other bollocks you get from the average GCSE candidate who can't string a sentence together.

Fair enough, I happen to agree - probably one of the most sensible things that's been said since day one :)

Anyway, I've said my bit...it's the weekend, time to "lighten up"

Ps: I'm not a 'groundskeeper' either!!!
