Once you get away from the “Pale” song (which hung around their neck like an albatross),  Procol Harum’s back catalogue is full of gems - I’ve been listening to some of them over the weekend:

Well…up to a point.   Homburg was slightly AWSOP part 2 (I think Conquistador was a better single) and, although their music suits an orchestral treatment, I’d rather hear something like A Salty Dog.

But thanks anyway, I’ll seek out the rest of that concert.

Having the house to myself for a couple of hours this afternoon and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of “ Diamond Dogs” I opened my best bottle of Malbec and sat between the speakers, and put it on.

I have played this album so many times and it never disappoints. However I picked up on a line on the track “ We are the dead”, that being - “ we are fighting with the eyes of the blind” and it struck me that was very Cohenesque.

Anyway brilliant album. Great way to spend 45 minutes or so listening to it. Recommended.

The “Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing” suite is among the best things that Bowie ever recorded.

“Where’s your head at?”

Well, this morning, it’s right here…I can see it’s going to be a day of “love songs for the doomed”…😕
