"Mr Fleurbaay thinks we need a leaner government and a responsible reduction in public spending."

He has my vote straight away.

I think any candidate who came and said the opposite would be committing suicide.

That said, it's always Bill (DCCL staff lay-off / redeployment / retraining; seeking medical drugs for constituent not prescribed in England but 'available' in Scotland), Ben and Brenda (breast cancer specialist) getting on constituency hobby horses which result in throwing more money at things and/or emotive headlines.

Anyway, he's got my vote (so far).

  • 2 weeks later...

Theo, is an excellent business man, he runs a couple of hotels in Hutchinson Square.

he is also very active in promoting the Island through the Association of Hoteliers, I remember having a conversation with him a few years ago about some ideas for an intergrated website and the lack of a centralised systems.

If I was a in Douglas North, he would get my vote.

here here a very genuine man will get my vote !!!

I have had dealings with Peter and I think he would make a great MHK as well,

Thinking Douglas North & The island in general would pick up two great politicians if Peter & Theo where to be voted in.

James Davis interviewed John Houghton on Manx Radio this evening.

John was bolshie and loud as ever and after a bit of talking about the Island's relationship with UK and other important matters, out of the blue started giving James and Manx Radio a bit of stick for not taking some matters seriously. John referred to "Pinky and Perky", although I think the phrase Manx Radio have used is Bill and Ben. He even suggested that most people are sick of Manx Radio and turning to 3fm or BBC Radio 4 for this very reason.

It was John Houghton at his very entertaining best - firing a runaway gattling gun from the hip.

James kept his cool and his dignity, listening to John Houghton talking about how well John Houghton had done for the Island and his constituents.

Then at the appropriate moment, like a ninja hiding quietly in the shadows, James popped out and asked Mr Houghton why he hadn't been so vocal on MHKs pensions....

Well, John Houghton floundered and flustered and ummed and ahhh-butted and seemed like a rather foolish man. In for the kill? Nah, James let him off the hook but the point had been so expertly made.

To be fair, JH came over pretty good in parts, if a little unstable.

James 1 . . . John 0

You must have listened to a different broadcast!

For me, JH came over as an overbearing, bullying jerk who was determined not to let the interviewer do his job.

His demand for respect was laughable - and his suggestion that MR interviewers should listen to the way its done on Radio 4 was pathetic. Doesn't he realise that Radio 4 have to talk to real politicians; some of whom actually do deserve a bit of respect?

His arrogance was only slightly above the level of his sheer ignorance and, at best, you'd have to see him as an ego out of control.

No one should vote for that horrid little man and, if they listened to tonight's broadcast, I'm sure that very few would.
