The Sick Moon
Manannan fixed, and returning to Douglas The Manannan has been fixed. Problems with her engines last night led to the cancellation of the sailing from Merseyside, and today's journey to Belfast. Specialists were brought in this morning to take a look at the electronic management systems, which it was thought were being affected by one of the engines not running at the moment. The vessel left Liverpool around 12.30pm.

Rhumsaa
why did they need the riot police there that has been quoted?
thommo2010
Someone I know said the police had to attend for some people on the boat who couldn't handle their ale
Positive Thinker
I understand from my boys who are now safely home, that there was quite a tale over how the festival goers were treated (or mistreated) in Liverpool last night. Expected to sleep in the terminal, whilst other passengers were given accommodation in hotels. Eventually after protesting, ended up in a hostel type arrangement. All very poor on behalf of the packet - needs to be a very public explanation of events so we can all decide if the contingency plans were adequate and equitable. english zloty
Tbf they prob stank (Leeds festie was a dump) and anywhere is better than a muddy tent
thommo2010
There were probably only a number of rooms available and thought people who had just slept 3 days in a tent in a muddy field would more likely be comfortable in the terminal than say a family or middle aged person. I've slept in railway stations around Europe following my football team and its not that bad its a good life experience
Ornament
Many of the festival goers didn't have any money to book into a hotel, as we had to pay for hotels ourselves. The steam packet made no arrangements whatsoever for the passengers. We walked of the boat straight into a raining Liverpool and not one member of staff to tell us what to do. We were expecting to be allocated a hotel, but we were abandoned. We went to the Crowne plaza, at 1.30am paid 89 pounds and waited for the supposed text message we were meant to get before 8am. We got the text at 11am to tell us to check in by 11am!
Boris Johnson
Why cant people manage to look after themselves in situations like this? The IOMSPCo did not plan the engine problems it just happened, things like this do when travelling. As for not having any money on the way back, I would suggest if someone is that skint that they have no back up funds for events like this they should not be leaving the island as they clearly cant really afford to. The nanny state has left a lot of people unable to cope when things like this happen. Then they like to run to the papers/ social media to moan how hard done by they have been and/ or seek legal advice about how they can make a few bob out of their "stress" Edited August 26, 2014 by Boris Johnson
Ornament
I don't know about the riot police but the police would only allow us off 10 at a time. They were also appealing for a doctor or nurse so perhaps people were struggling with their ale ( or vodka I think) The poor staff that did show their faces tried their best and had to clean the worst mess I have ever seen, people were taking advantage of the free food and drink and didn't eat just left it all over tables and floor. Free food, drink and wi-fi this morning too. Some had 2 full English breakfasts. Must have cost a fortune.
Ornament
I agree that people shouldn't leave island if they can't afford a hotel but these were young people, and we all remember being young! We overheard a girl say that she had no money left cos she had spent it all on drink, food and drugs!
sarahc
We've all been there. The trick is not to moan about it afterwards, and get a spare credit card for next time.
