Isle of Singapore where they will show you the door

Isle of Trinidad where everything is bad

Isle of Tenerife where there are thiefs

Oh I see they did get the consultants to do it for them.

At least it was a local firm. Usually they go off Island for this sort of thing.

Aren't there enough DED Sales & Marketing bods already? (quick search on linkedin would suggest otherwise)

Why couldn't they have done it?

Why is it the taxpayer always pays twice? Once for the Gov bod and then again for the Consultant?

Because the gov bots need someone to blame when it goes wrong - you don't expect them to take the fall, do you? Cushy job and pension are at risk here...

That is so true Amadeus, the island has an ever expanding sector of consultants from every discipline you can think of, and a lot you cant, with the sole purpose of protecting the civil servants bottoms.

I dont think that consultants are all bad, there are some really good ones on the island and despite popular belief, they can and do provide a worthwhile service. It is the doubling up of the process that gets me, if the department lacks the skills then yes a consultant can be a cost effective way of progressing something out of the ordinary.

It is when the department already employ people who are qualified to do that kind of work and they employ a consultant to do it for them, that is the problem. There are people on big money in the civil service, the big salary in the private sector comes with certain expectations, one of which is you must make decisions within your area of expertise.

if you are not prepared to put your name to something then you should not be in that often highly paid position.

see the Home of Rest for Old Horses....

as long as it's not on a weekend or bank holiday.

Could never understand why a charity would not make the most of children at weekends and families at bank holidays !

Therein lies the rub.... Instead of cutting back on front-line services why not just bin these 'nice to have' positions and hire a bunch of contract managers?
