Keith
How much does the Bishop get paid by tax payers to be an unelected member of government?
Lisenchuk
Interesting question,Keith. I've often wondered if he takes a Parliamentary salary and pension or is it just an extension of his role as a Bishop.
Mr. Sausages
Stupid politicians. They could have just upped water rates and avoided all the drama. Toilet tax will go up lots over the next few years by the way. Serves you all right for shitting like the filthy animals you all are. Keith
He gets his Church of England salary and expenses of £6000. Thanks Roxanne. I'd often wondered if he got a salary, expenses or did it as part of his CofE duties. £6,000 is quite a lot of expenses, I wonder how many hours he has to put in during a year? Lisenchuk
£6000 'expenses' is a fradulent term if no receipts are required to validate the sum. Makes it nigh impossible to trust or respect any members of either house when they benefit from unnacountable schemes like this.
asitis
Expenses is just their way of phrasing a 6k part of the salary so it is less revolting to us prolls ! Otherwise it would be expenses up to 6k on production of receipts !
slinkydevil
You all need to pay your toilet tax. It's the only way we will be able to clear the MEA debt. In the meantime, it's party time!http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-news/performance-pay-at-mea-totalled-more-than-226-500-1-6466010
Lisenchuk
Chris Thomas to ask further questions on cost of collecting toilet charges and cost risks associated with non payers. From Manx Radio News:MHK tables questions over toilet tax 'risk' Published online at 01/03/2014 20:42:32 The controversial toilet tax is back on the Manx political agenda next week. The MHK who brought a 6,000 signature petition opposing the new charge to Tynwald, will table a series of detailed questions in the House of Keys on Tuesday. West Douglas member Chris Thomas will ask Water Authority chairman John Houghton to reveal the estimated cost of collecting the charge. He'll ask why the £50 per household charge was not put out to public consultation - and the time scale for means-testing it. Mr Thomas says there's a real possibility some people might refuse to pay the charge when bills arrive - and that's a risk he says Mr Houghton must address: Listen To Related Audio Clip
Moghrey Mie
Good for him. He's got more principles than most of that lot in Tynwald.
Roger Mexico
Actually Chris Thomas has got two oral questions down for the Keys tomorrow relating to the sewerage charge: 9. The Hon. Member for Douglas West (Mr Thomas) to ask the Chairman of the Water and Sewerage Authority - What the estimated cost is of collecting the 2014/15 sewerage charge, including the cost of collating and considering the contrary evidence mentioned in Sewerage Charge Order 2014 Section 3 (4); and what risks are being managed in respect of this collection? 10. The Hon. Member for Douglas West (Mr Thomas) to ask the Chairman of the Water and Sewerage Authority - What the statutory obligation to consult (a) is currently; and (b) was originally in the Sewerage Act 1999; and why the Council of Ministers endorsed best practice guidance to consult when considering major policy decisions was ignored in respect of the levying of a sewerage charge in 2014/15? Plus a written one to Bell that calls him out on his vague "something must be done" attitude about the fairness of the charge: 2. The Hon. Member for Douglas West (Mr Thomas) to ask the Chief Minister - Who is responsible for working on means testing the charging for sewerage treatment and infrastructure; and what schedule and budget have been established for this work? and similarly to Robershaw: 8. The Hon. Member for Douglas West (Mr Thomas) to ask the Minister for Social Care - What proportion of the 2014/15 sewerage charge will be paid by social security benefits? If nothing else this should illustrate just how much all this was thrown together last minute and how much pre-planned. Did they even think of such things before Chris asked his questions? The question to Teare is a real killer in particular - either they will have to admit that the very poorest will be expected to find the money themselves or that a lot of the money that this will 'raise' will simply be transferred from another part of the public pot. Either way will expose the lack of 'joined-up government' that they are all so keen to praise and so unable to practice. Edited for brainfart. Lisenchuk
In the Manx Radio news section I see that Chris Thomas has also picked up a Tynwald petition presented by Butch in 2009 calling for a fairer community charge to replace the current unfair rates system. Wonder why none of the other representatives picked this up earlier. From Manx Radio News: MHK picks up rates-scrapping grievance petition Published online at 04/03/2014 06:10:00 David Buttery A Douglas man says he’s surprised but pleased that his petition for redress of grievance may now be discussed by Tynwald, almost five years after he handed it in. David Buttery presented his petition in July 2009, calling for the rates system to be scrapped and replaced with fairer ways of paying for local services. West Douglas MHK Chris Thomas says he’ll now pick up the document after the recent political row over the toilet tax exposed a need for rates reform. Mr Buttery says he’s been convinced for years that the rates are anachronistic and unfit for purpose: Listen To Related Audio Clip
x-in-man
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-26418991 An app that allows people to charge members of the public to use their private toilet is being tested at the New Orleans Mardi Gras. Sorted my contributions out - TT TT PPP the TT Toilet Tax Pee Payment Plan. Launch a TT Toilet app, charge anyone 2 quid, put some flowers in the crapper, sit back and rake it in. I'm sure it can be extended to include the CTT TT PPP, maybe even the PW TT PPP (if I lived on the route)
