The Old Git
my first one was a 2.4 -- 1kb every 10 seconds or so... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Same here, what was it, 2400, 9600, 14400 and then 28000? Used to take up to 1 hour to get connected to Demon, there were no local ISPs back then. Also had Cix and Compuserve

Last Ten
Here is a poll that Dabs.com are holding at the moment, it is called "what speed internet connection are you using at home" It proves that the old 56k modem is virtually non existent and that quite a few people are using 2mbps at home! Alias
Most people that use dabs are pretty familiar with technology, so are bound to have bought better connections than a random sampling of people.

I only posted it because it is on a similar theme to this ADSL Upgrades thread. Looking forward to what you believe to be a fair poll and a fair balance and maybe an example or two. Alias
The telcos? Just pointing out it doesn't really prove anything. You won't really find a site with unbiased figures.
Last Ten
The telcos? What about the Telcos - Please explain! Just pointing out it doesn't really prove anything. Of course it proves something, it proves that; 1024 people use a 56k modem 5029 people use 512kbs broadband 6417 people use a 1Mbps Broadband 7230 people use a 2Mbps Broadband 1005 people use another form of internet connection Unless I am missing something here it does prove something! You won't really find a site with unbiased figures. But you are very quick Alias to point out that Dabs.com are biased! Last Ten
3allz
It proves from people who browse dabs.com that 1024 people use a 56k modem 5029 people use 512kbs broadband 6417 people use a 1Mbps Broadband 7230 people use a 2Mbps Broadband 1005 people use another form of internet connection If you were to survey 10,000+ people who are over 70 the results would be different

GD4ELI
As of Jan 1st 2006 in the mountains of Switzerland - twice as high as Snaefell (almost) - 2500Kbits/200Kbits will cost GBP 44 including cable modem and VAT. If you have seen the flooding and avalanches you will have an idea of the infrastructure problems we have - it's not all cheese and skiing. And this offer is from a small cable TV / internet company, not a big outfit like Swisscom (main Swiss telephone company). The customers are all local, friendly service - nice people. Mail server can be a bit slow at times but I'm not complaining. The sun is shining, it will be 27C today and it's Friday !
