Albert Tatlock
Did it finally shut down in 2003? I saw a band there TT week 2003. ETA: Damn I'm old, it was 1993, just looked it up in my scrapbook it was Nazareth.
immortalpuppet
Rebuilding something of that size there now would be lunacy. I have fond memories of Summerland from the 80's and 90's but even then it was only ever packed for majorette week when we still had a little tourism. We used to rob the upstairs bars alot, they didnt have any secure roofing, they were just a few wooden beams quite far apart. The Cave/nemo's was quite a good nightspot considering whats available now.
TheTeapot
I think quite a lot of people used to rob the upstairs bar via the roof, I may have drank some of the stolen booze.

trmpton
It seems from the video that there were plans for a similar place that included a TT museum. It's crazy that the Isle of Man does not have the biggest best motorcycle museum in the world. Are you nuts? How would it ever come close to breaking even, never mind turning a profit. There are 80,000 people here. About 40,000 bike fans visit here each year. That's 120,000 IN TOTAL including babies etc, so maybe 60,000 who would EVER go to a motorcycle museum. Most of those people are the either live here, or are the same ones who visit year after year. So let's be generous and say 10,000 visitors a year, most of whom would want to visit in the same week. Have you any idea of the running costs, insurance etc, and how many attend motorbike events all round the world on a regular basis? The biggest in the world just shows the mentality of people here and their lack of understanding. Why in gods name would we have a bigger motorcycle museum than any Moro GP circuit which can attract more potential punters in one weekend than we would in a whole year? Gladys
Absolutely right, trmpton. That logic wasn't applied to the transport museum in Jurby though, was it?
Tarne
I've been up there once... That's the main problem, I'll never go again ha! Is t still open up there?
asitis
Absolutely right, trmpton. That logic wasn't applied to the transport museum in Jurby though, was it? Please don't apply logic to Government and anything which involves the assessment of possible numbers, we have seen time and time again that common sense and logic are at the bottom of the list of any analysis ! Prime idea for government funding then.
