Just walked past there at lunch.

It appears Kel have now removed the hoardings with the aspirational artist's impression of the finished development.

So now you can see all the bushes growing out of it and see exactly how derelict it looks.

People use the word eyesore a lot, but it really does take the biscuit and pretty much ruins the entire jazzing up of the whole quay area.

Could they not do what the Government does and rent in some "Pay to condemn" surveyors" ? did the church not also do this in the North?.  But then again, both failed when the light was shone on them. 🤔

That's exactly what they did do and it failed in exactly the same way:

Previously home to outdoor wear outlet Newsons, the site was cordoned off last year and braced with steelworks over fears it may collapse.

However, the building's safety and potential to be repurposed has been disputed in separate engineering reports commissioned by the developers and the Department of Environment Food and Agriculture.

And guess what.  Kel then threw a hissy fit and said they were going to give up and sell the building.  And didn't.  And eighteen months later are trying exactly the same thing.  With exactly the same people falling for it.

Is this post in support of the planning decision?

Do you think they should have been made to repair and keep the existing building or facade?

Now that is genius.

@Josem reckon you could recommend the spotlights to add to the ambiance?

Ideally colour them for what ever disability/sexuality is flavour of the month.  Possibly add some flamey effects?

but why would something in such a poor state (salvageable or not) and looking like shit need to be saved? Its all very well banging on about heritage, but when it adds absolutely zero either historically or aesthetically then what is the point? We need to let go of this notion that just because somethings old its worth saving. It fucking isnt and douglas is a shit hole full of similarly shitty old buildings decaying before our eyes.

They are covering Strand Street with umbrellas perhaps if they have a few to spare this could add to the street art campaign for diversity.

Are they using them to cover the other empty/derelict buildings in Strand Street too?

I think DBC could make something of this.

We're going to need a lot of umbrellas though.

They saved the Peggy how much did that cost ? Now they are planning to build a four million pound shed to house her and ongoing expense of maintaining the whole shebang.    The only place that I think is worth saving is the Castle Mona which is quietly being left to rot.

Kel should remove the building support as well as apparently the heritage brigade say there’s nothing wrong with it 😂

People in saddle may not be too happy though!
