  1. Cheaper in the pet shop than the butcher.
  2. And what when it’s done? Government buys back the capital asset at an over inflated price to reflect the risk? If not bought back, Private sector controls infrastructure and stiffs consumers to repay capital and/or completed asset sold onto a pension fund? Do you really think Peel would build it to any old spec without a buyer?
  3. The original strategy paper is here. Single port capacity at peak times plus FP preference for Liverpool seem to have been the drivers. The commitment was obviously made prior to IoMSPCo being bought by Treasury but I don’t see that purchase making any difference to the strategy, it just took one commercial player out of the picture and joined up ferry operation, commitment to buy land and public interest in IOM plc via Infrastructure and Treasury. https://www.gov.im/media/1354224/report-to-tynwald-july-2016-liverpool-landing-stage-strategic-sea-services-agreement.pdf implementation of strategy is a different thing but cost overruns on these sort of projects seems to be a common failing everywhere. The so called professionals involved in costing and planning etc seem to walk away with their full wheelbarrows whilst the public kicks off at politicians…
  4. They’ve got an expert overview and options are scoped in and out. We’ve a decent natural resource to supplement any supply and resilience provided by cable interconnectors. Expect defensive parish politics to prevent it or lead to selection of an unsuitable site. No one moans about transmitters on the top of Beary, The Howe, Snaefell or Carnane or flooded valleys where reservoirs are etc. The usual soon to be dead crew will be out with their pitchforks and those who think green is bollocks and the magic gas field no one can finance makes it all unnecessary or premature.
  5. FSA have fucked up as well if they missed any UK disqualification as they usually piggy bag and ban over here as well.
  6. Watch how Tynwald questions turn into an operational inquest and blame laying on stuff which isn’t actually ‘politics’ and you’ll see why Ministers want to be fully informed before deciding anything and the CS spend so much time on decision and policy option papers etc.
  7. A load of big cables and some renewables of our own. I assume we’ll need natural gas via interconnector for domestic supply for a number of years even if pulrose gas part is not given a capital overhaul. At that point there may be some marginality on costs of maintaining supply spur against volume we use in total.
  8. I’m surprised Moulton and Robertshaw haven’t been on wanking each other off about this yet.
  9. It’s a zombie administration. There’s been a handful of Acts passed and stasis under interim chief execs. Greenhow binned anyone who might have been capable of succeeding him. Who was the last Chief Exec who left under their own steam? The last one I can think of is Ian Thompson in about 2013. Loads of Departments are career graveyards above Director level. How many CEOs has Health had?

  11. I agree with you on that. Specific land tax for central sites undeveloped or part developed, say 2% of site value and going up 1 % each year thereafter and rateable. Ring fence the take for tourism upgrades / refurb assistance or similar. Can’t remember whether demolition needs planning approval (maybe conservation zones) but it could also be conditioned in for demolition not to use the vacant site for car park or car wash.
  12. Brownfield car park is say 150 sq ft per space allowing access and manoeuvre and pulls in 1200 per year £8.66 per sq ft so it’s a bit of a no brainer not to incur capital cost when office rent after completion is £20 sq ft but subject to voids, ongoing costs etc.
  13. 4:40 in that clip, sons interest in deep water / cruise ships and also has skin in the game re Crogga. “I know for a fact….” I bet he’s been in Alf’s ear a lot on re CT having doubts about drilling before 3D and is using the prominence he’s built re Ranson as leverage for his own interests. Moulton’s being used as patsy again but is too thick to realise it.
  14. Those two were always going to be top given where the games were being held.
  15. We’ve also hosted the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011 or thereabouts.
  16. Away with your facts. More rumours required.

Don’t need Regs for a 3D seismic, which should be the next step. That survey should have taken a number of years. The now ‘urgent’ need for Regs is to accommodate them wanting to drill before 3D seismic. Then blame it on Government. And I bet they havent got a pot to piss in when it comes either to cost of 3D, seismic or bond. if there was any decent prospect of deposits there, do you really think this two bit operation would be the only one showing interest?
  18. Me. I unplugged them because I was worried about power surges and left them outside in the rain where I thought they’d be safer.

Do they know what they’re signing up for? Stupid does as stupid told. Big magic gas beans..

The seismic survey they want to skip is 3d. There’s a big difference in cost and data yield. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/318960536_Pros_and_cons_of_2D_vs_3D_seismic_mineral_exploration_surveys

Source? Short cut to market contrary to established industry practice recommended by hired expert and investors? Where do we sign up? ‘Best way’ for the company sounds like they havent got the cash to do it properly. I ask again. Show me a project in a responsible jurisdiction where no seismic survey before drilling is allowed.

If anyone can point me to a scheme where seismic survey has come after drilling, I’d be amazed. You’ll be looking a long time because it just does not happen. in the meantime, if you do want to donate, it’s double money to https://chuffed.org/project/juststopoil with current press baron hate figure Dale Vince matching any donation over the next 36 hours.
