"Services have to be identified, (telecoms, gas, electric, water, sewers, rainwater drains) these are not always it the places thought to be, hit a fibre optic cable and its big bugs to repair." That is why the IOM Government have the mannGIS system, so they all know exactly where everything is, don't try to bullshit a seasoned bullshitter.

To be fair they dont allways know where they go, and cant allways tell if there in the ground.

and even if there shown on the plans there never in the same place.

And i have a few pics of buckets after the MEA have said that cables dead rip it out of the ground, to which the bucket has a football size hole in it after finind out it wasent dead.

"To the the gas board going what the hells that"

", well thats your gas pipe"

" to which they reply we dont have any in that road"

"well theres gas coming out of it so u better get it fixed"

telcome cables feed down drains etc etc.

list gos on.

But as there only taking the top of it in them pictures there aint going to be any cables there so there just slack and slow

Indeed you are full of shit Mr Bawden, I can take pictures of who I like, where I like as long as it is public property, and i am not using the photographs for illegal purposes or for commercial gain (in which case I would need to seek a release from said person).

Matt - even on here you're slowly digging a hole for yourself on that one.

In matts defence I must say I do know him and the work he does and along with a couple of his team I doubt anyone on the island could even learn to do his job within less than 5 years, the work he and his team does is equal if not better than similar teams in the UK and the amount of work they do is more than expected, I doubt many could keep up with their pace, this all goes to show the idiots who tar a whole department with the same brush that sometimes they should think before generalising. I can bet if you went round to a lot of private sector work places and took photographs it would show they are now hard at work all the time and I am sure they would object, so in the same light why should people who work outdoors not object to people doing the same.

Oh and silentbob mannGIS is not that accurate and MEA refuse to put a majority of cable runs on it.

Well, the way that the Government let the MEA get away with everything like some spoilt little kid is another of my pet peevs, they act as if they are a private company when the going is good, then jump on the benefits line when they want new toys to play with. They should be forced to update GIS along with everyone else.

I still find it hard to believe that in this day and age it took 3 working days to find a cable.

As previously stated, I will be monitoring the site ;)

Can you enlighten us as what job within the DoT could not be learnt by anyone on the Isle of Man. That is longer that it takes to train many professionals

His job is professional and then extra on top, many private companies require degree level for entry into it, as for what his job is ask him, BTW what highly trained profession are you in to enable you to criticise others who work.

SilentBob, are you aware that taking photographs of people and publishing them for public viewing without their consent is an offence?

No it isn't. And don't bother arguing that because you are wrong :)

If an image is taken on private property or is used to promote something commercially or politically then there may be legal and / or rights issues. But that's not what you are talking about.

Correct - all I see there is a general street picture, which happens to contain a construction site. Taken in public, use as you please. If you took close-ups of the workers then they could object, but as long as they're only part of a picture, it'll be fine.

SilentBob, are you aware that taking photographs of people and publishing them for public viewing without their consent is an offence? And are you aware that people like you are the kind of idiot that bring about a totallitarian government with your snooping and spying, imagine a world where everyone was like you snooping and spying on everyone, if that's your idea of utopia then I hope I make it to hell, and yes I am employed by the Department of Transport and if you ever publish a photo of me I will indeed prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.

Isn't that a photo of you on the left ?

Degree and Chartered Accountant since you ask, not that it is particularly relevent I am not the one claiming that nobody in the IoM could learn to do the job within five years.

You have claimed this, I am interested to know what sort of job relating to the DoT is so complex and specialist that not only does it require 5 years training but that very few people actually have the ability to learn the job within that period. In my immediate family I have a State Registered Nurse who works in intesive care, a Vet, a solicitor, and a research scientist. Non I expect would make the claim you are making and I doubt many of my friends from a wide range of professions would make such a claim.

How about putting up or shutting up.

Firstly Digga Matty is not a site engineer he is more a technical professional and nothing to do with civil engineering, try to remember DoT works division encompasses many trades, also lost login as previously said ask him about his job, it is up to him if he wishes to disclose it to you, I would not dream of disclosing such information just to satisfy someones curiosity, as you state all those in your family have taken many years to reach their standard, in actual fact I doubt many people anywhere world wide could reach a decent standard in many technical professions in les than 5 years when you consider even a basic trade where an apprenticeship is first done then followed by 2 to 3 years extra training, then needing actual supervised experience before being deemed compitent to do the job alone.

So you are happy to state that his job is so difficuly that nobody else in the IoM could learn it within five years, but you would not dream of disclosing what it is. I smell a serious helping of Bullshit coming from your direction, followed by a main course of bollocks.
