Drove through today and breathed a sigh of relief. It has made living in Onchan a bit of a pain while it has been going on, but it seems worth it. Nice smooth road, short wait to get through lights, scaffolding down ( after about 9 years ) and pretty twinkly lights. Onchan looks clean and presentable. Glad to live here. Merry Christmas!

Won't someone please think about the pavement outside Thomas Jefferson's Gran's house? It hasn't been touched since Victorian times, surely it must be the fault of the Civil Service? tongue.png

The point is not the pavement, it's the fact that she's been paying rates and taxes all her life yet they haven't even fixed the bloody pavement outside her house since Queen Victoria was on the throne. I think she should get a refund.

How about employing some lateral-thinking? If it's such a danger why don't YOU fix it? If i'd grandparents that's what i'd do, and do it properly. Even if you've to pay for it yourself you could try'n send OnCom the bill, make'em feel guilty, an'that...

Yes,lets piss money on other unneeded projects just so it looks pretty....I think the original poster was commenting about an already laid stretch of tarmac being ripped up and done again. Why was overtime given yesterday, when the traffic lot were still there today? Its been a right christmas bonus for all doi workers involved.

Piss off dickhead, you would be the first to complain about holes in the road.

Which muppet set the timings on the lights? If you head from Corkills towards the Manx Arms the first set of lights can be green and you pass through but as you approach the second set they turn red so you stop. The next sequence of lights allows the traffic from Avondale (between the co-op and Manx Arms) to come down and either turn right to proceed to Corkills or turn left but they cant turn left because that lane is full of traffic.

You would have thought they would have somebody monitoring this?

Do you remember the old TV information films for traffic lights?

Amber Gambler?

Do you ware a Trilby hat and drive a Austin Allegro by any chance?

If you have a twin, I would stop driving now, the future is not looking good for you, its looking, expensive, and painful.......

Seriously, the lights have always been that way if you went through at the end of the queue just before they changed. People can way these situations up "on the fly" and everyone gets through without carnage.

Human beings brains are far more capable of making sensible decisions quickly than a chip in a traffic light, FFS its Christmas and Matt has better things to do I am sure.

Cheers BR, the signals are being monitored and data from traffic flows and volumes are being collected, these need to be tied in with the Bemahague signals during school term time to get a real data profile of traffic, unfortunately the completion date for Onchan was out of term time, having said that the permanent signals allow traffic and pedestrians to flow a lot more safely and efficiently than temporary signals.

Rest assured that we at the DoI are fully aware of discrepancies and inefficiencies in the timings and once all the required data has been collated any alterations to ensure more efficient and safer travel for both motorists and pedestrians will be made.

Wrong. The second set of lights had a delay on them so when the first set changed to red the second set didnt change until some seconds after thus not leaving traffic from the first sequence blocking the traffic for the next sequence. Its common sense.

Why not take the timings off the old lights which worked fine? Also got stuck going through he same as Dooah, they don't let you right through like they used to, so you end up with a backlog when the first lights change.

The old lights worked inefficiently in comparison to how they should be operating now, there is an extra pedestrian crossing at the top of Royal Avenue and the staging and streams are different to what was there before, as I said data is being collected and timings will be tweaked so that they can be as efficient as possible but in the meantime they are operating well, I have been up a few times today with two of my children to show them the traffic lights (they're young , so easily pleased) and saw that the traffic was clearing very well.
