I'd like to see Alf Cannan stand up & declare that he would deliver a government that won't increase taxes/charges for the ordinary people

Well if he did he wouldn't get any public sector votes because the other side of that equation is big govt cuts. We need that of course, but getting that manifesto through an election would be problematic. More likely have to slide it through without asking for a public mandate - or go bust.

Bell is deflecting attention away from the fact that Members and civil servants have recently had a back dated pay rise.

Stu did tackle him on this yesterday and compared the "we had no choice but to accept this increase" to the "bugger off, you can have a pay cut" issued to the bus drivers. "Are we really all in it together Chief Minister?". He went all around the houses in reply, and did not address the point at all. Instead he said that the MHKs have to accept what the civil servants get. This of course does not answer the question which was why are ANY of them getting ANY increase. Good politician. Can't pin him down, although Stu had him floundering a bit more than usual.

Bell has had that media training where you don't answer the question asked but waffle on to fill the time available. And most interviewers on Manx Radio ( except Beth Espey and Marian Kenny) don't bother to persist until they get an answer to the question they asked.

The media are all bought and paid for anyway. For once I'd like someone to call out the CM and end one of his long winded, round the houses answers with 'That's all very interesting Chief Minister but can you please answer the question I just asked.'

Am I the only one here that thinks £300+ million a year on wages is bloody madness ?

It looks like the government now is being run as a wages scheme ?

Wasn't the bill for the yearly government budget £500 million ?

Time to trim more fat I think sweatingbullets.gif

Starting with the deputy chief executives and other expensive non-jobs we've got too many of.

It's an immensely selfish & myopic way to attempt to run an economy

Creating an empire of civil service wage voter slaves to constantly keep you in office & let the rest of the population be damned

No wonder they have that stupid 'objectives' web page, rather than surveying citizen happiness & approval

End Bell!

Stu gave a good interview on Talking Heads yesterday, but I am just so sick of hearing Mr Bell glibly dancing his way around [what he regards as] the hard questions:

1. Why aren't they outsourcing work to third sector enterprises now?

2. Why aren't they abolishing the massively unpopular & huge waste of cash that is LegCo?

3. Why aren't they refusing to take a pay rise?

4. Why aren't they addressing the Public Sector Pension system immediately?

5. Why aren't they robustly addressing the 'Scope & Structure' issue?

If the Great Dictator thinks that the Manx public are going to be happy to see CoMin use reserves to cover current deficits & then carry on as before from 2015 then he has another think coming

>If the Great Dictator thinks that the Manx public are going to be happy...

They're not happy. He's a dead man walking. Last term for Allan with no legacy worthy of note; only real hope is some sort of gong from Her Majesty.

Only real sadness is that there isn't a sensible alternative from within the ranks. Not an easy task though...saving £200 million every year and not expecting voters to want your head on a stick when those 'savings' affect them.

Having passed Kewaige school car park last Friday afternoon, the plethora of 4x4 drivers don't seem to be suffering unduly just yet; we're a long way from 'squeaky bum' time. It's coming though, just a matter of time.

My main concern is for those that would wish to work, but can't. A generation of young talent wasted and precious little from the politicians in the name of enterprise.

The real question is just how we allowed ourselves to get into this mess in the first instance!

TBT.

Don't forget that Bell was the main orchestrator of the unaffordable situation we have now,so if comes and bites him in the ass then their is some justice in it.

We didn't actually allow anything to happen,we were deceived into believing it was sustainable.

Advert in the IOM Courier January 24th for an organisation to design and deliver 'a senior leadership and management development programme' to Senior Leaders within Government.

I expect they'll want more money after they've been through that and learnt how to do their jobs.

WTF???!!!
