It looks like an interesting Christmas for drink driving.

Quite a few arrests have been reported.

The interesting thing will be to compare the outcome for Mr Wild compared to an anonymous person with a similar amount of alcohol. My view is that a previously good record driver who has a low profile should be heavily fined and given a suspended sentence. A high profile politician (or policeman, advocate, civil servant) should be heavily fined and given an actual period in custody as they should no better and be made an example of.

Of course am not a judge.

The cover-up has not happened yet, but it no doubt will over the next week or two

How will that work in practice? Will they somehow wipe the minds of everyone who read the newspaper report and replace it with kittens and sunshine?

Imprisoning elevated people just for drink driving is mental. And a waste of money.

Sorted !! MTP would you have the same opinion if he had mown down one of your family members ?

Three times over the limit is exceedingly dangerous and surely he should expect and be given a proportionate sentence just like normal members of society.

But if the higher profile offenders are dealt with in the public glare, if may and hopefully send a powerful message to the public. Especially the negative message and its personal affect on the offender. It quite frankly beats the current anti drink driving campaign.

He probably wouldn't have done it if he wasn't pissed.

Excuse me but surely you don't expect him to walk in that state do you?

It's "arrested on suspicion" until the results of the blood tests come through.

Wouldn't it be ironic if there was somehow a mix-up at the lab?

So, IF charged and IF found guilty and IF three times over the limit...custody?Christ, we'll be paying twice for him....

He won't go to jail. Nor should he really.

On what basis? Three times over is pretty pissed; so I would have thought a suspended sentence might be in order and probably isn't excessive if the charges are proven. I don't know why people are playing this down or comparing it to being sick on a bus. Someone could easily have died. A few people above have said that lets see how this is treated compared to Joe Bloggs who also got done for DD this Christmas; and if they have all been treated the same then fine.

The fact is thought that someone in his position should have known better.

Three times over the limit is only dangerous if you drive like a cock as a result.

If he is convicted, he should immediately resign from any government post and should seriously consider resigning from Tynwald. He cannot be taken seriously as someone who has a role in writing, revising and passing laws if he is found to break them.

Obviously, if he's not guilty then he shouldn't resign.
