Hitherto unstated complications of Brexit

one of my family remarked this morning that EUSSR directives have added thousands of pounds to the running costs of his business and his competitors,he is looking forward to an EUSSR without it costing us/everybody an arm and a leg for their one size fits all overarching intrusions into all aspects of our lives, roll on the next DOMINO.

He is likely to be disappointed.

There are thousands of EU regulations which are currently law in the UK. It will take a whole new and expensive bureacracy years to evaluate them all and decide which to keep and which not to. We will then have to move forward creating new regulations which we pay for ourselves instead of sharing the cost amongst 28 other countries.

That cost being borne out of a diminished GDP as a result of inefficiencies caused by the loss of freedom of movement of capital and labour and the cost of tariffs and the hassle of exporting across borders. The resulting regulations being similar to those that will apply in the EU if we want our goods and services to be sold there. Added to which we have sent a message to the world that we are insular, backward looking and xenophobic whilst denying opportunities to our young.

Apart from that, all is well.

wher do you live? BRUSSELS?

A well thought through and considered response, I have no riposte.

Which costs is he looking forward to getting rid of first? Not being able to sack women for getting pregnant or minimum periods of paid annual leave for the plebs? That kind of thing?

Since when did the EU set the public holidays? Look at all the countries in Europe, they all have differing levels of public holidays.

It'll be interesting to see if we ever got the point of the UK leaving.

It's an extraordinary task.

If I interpret Sultans post above correctly I agree with him, paradoxically the people responsible for the Brexit are in my view the remainers, whose insular politics have not been all inclusive and have failed to realise there are a lot of people outside SW1 ! To brand over 17 million people as insular and backward looking and xenophobic is a step too far PD , amongst them will be lots of people who were shocked by the tactics of Cameron and his cronies who in my view did the job of the brexiteers for them !

IF the EU was as wonderful and absolutely essential as those now crying about the result claim then I wonder why it became necessary to hold a referendum at all. Seems a lot of very bad politics on every side !!

I couldn't vote and to this day I really couldn't say what it would have been, it is all a mess I hope it works out !

Ruth Davidson could create a new centrist party (European Conservatives or Social Democrats) and absorb the sensible element of the Labour and Conservative parties, enter into a pact with the SNP, Liberals, Greens, etc...Meanwhile Boris becomes PM, decides what it was he asked everyone to vote for and presents it to his party. Shaken they say this is a bit extreme and force him to go to the country in a general election to gain a mandate for his madness. In that election Ruth & co campaign on the basis of a federal UK, reduced austerity and the UK as a member of the EU and win a landlside victory. Farage is jailed, Cameron and Boris go into exile in Switzerland.

I can dream....

The dust hasn't even begun to settle and there are 'experts' prophesying the end of the world as we know it. We all knew that there was going to be short term turmoil and difficult times for a while as we reset our position in the world, even the Brexiteers were saying that, we need to work through all of this.

If the EU really wanted us to stay they would have tried harder to keep us. It still could happen that the UK parliament does not ratify the referendum should the EU offer us a better deal?

In order to continue trading with the EU, we would need to retain many of the rules and regulations that are in place now. Toxins and carcinogens are the purpose of some of these regs.

No Not all. You are not a country. You are not a nation. You are not sovereign. I heard Allan Bell say that whatever may replace Protocol 3 for the trade in physical goods the Isle of Man will not get any full access deal for financial services....The EU will take this chance to push you even further away than at present

The accusation that the vote was based on xenophobia is offensive. The EU is a centralising, sovereignty eroding, unaccountable clique run by some very odious self-serving people. So to vote against that is xenophobic? There's a big world out there!

No one can say that they weren't warned, including the majority on here. Brexit - the Movie doesn't look so good now does it.

How do you know? You haven't even got through the opening credits yet. For goodness sake. Those of a nervous disposition please go and sit in a darkened room for a few years.

I think the UK Parliament won't ratify it. Also looking at Sturgeon she's one of the few with any balls in this debate. Claiming now that the Scottish Parliament won't ratify the decision or give its approval for the UK Parliament to press the button on its behalf as the Scots clearly and overwhelmingly wanted to stay in. She's certainly showing Gove and Johnson up when it comes to at least being prepared to kick Cameron in the balls and mean it.
