There haven’t been covenants on ex H&B pubs for a few years have there?

There certainly isn’t one on The Stanley

Let's hope not. Covenants need to die, along with the rip off brewery.

Mentioned previously, but now official.

Seemed to have gone really downhill in the last couple of years, shame though.

Thank you everyone 🍻

It is with mixed emotions we announce that after 10 years, our time at The Thirty Pigeon has come to an end.

The last 10 years at The Thirsty Pigeon have been a blessing, the friendships and relationships we’ve built we’ll cherish forever.  We’ll forever be in debt to our amazing Pigeon family.

We have the utmost respect for everyone fighting for their business in this difficult time and wish everyone the happiness we’ve experienced over our tenure at the Pigeon and beyond.

We leave the Pigeon with fond memories and an immense pride to have been a part of the Douglas Pub life.

The Thirsty Pigeon Facebook page will remain active for a short while, we would love to see as many pictures of the good times people have shared with us with the hashtag

 #thethirstypigeon

We’d like to wish our successors at 38/40 Victoria Street all the very best for the future.  We hope you can enjoy the success we did and look forward to seeing you on the right side of the bar.

Finally, Rob Jnr and Tamara wish to remind you that Refuge is still thriving and are looking forward to welcoming everyone soon.

Cheers everyone

Yours sincerely
Snr & Jnr

Thought this was one of the busiest spots in Douglas

I would have said so too, not been in there and found it empty at any time.

It would be interesting to know what the problem was, I suspect high rent, utilities and low margins. Not sure government can do much about that?

Not for the last 18 months or so in my experience.

There seemed to be a change of manager? And then Rob and Rob themselves seemed to be less visible (understandable as jnr had his new venture) but it’s been quiet of a weekday night or a Saturday afternoon.

That might not be the reason for closing, but IMO it’s been a shadow of its former self recently.

Walked in there the other afternoon. Hadn't been in for a while.

The smell of armpit hit like an airbag, walked straight out

I heard a rumour that it had something to do with tax/NI

So if that turns out to be fact, it would be another place closing because it wasn’t being run properly?

Tax and NI isn’t complicated, and if you don’t get it you pay an accountant or even a basic bookkeeper or payroll supplier.

Nothing at all to do with the amount the government trouser then?

The Facebook post includes the words: We’d like to wish our successors at 38/40 Victoria Street all the very best for the future.  So it seems more likely they are being replaced by another similar business.  Perhaps there's retirement involved (the son has his own place).  The McAleers have been running pubs for over a century, so forgetting how to do tax/NI seems implausible.
