Very true indeed, there's an awful lot of people out there with paedophile leanings by the looks of it, probably even more fighting their inclination, should they also be shot or hung?  The only way to tackle it is to understand it, and that may be an unpleasant thought for some people who are hard of thinking. I think it's been established by some experts that paedophiles can not be rehabilitated? Surely then the answer is to prevent them from acting on their urges somehow? Without proper research, this would be impossible, except for the 'string 'em up' brigade.

Off with their bolloks it is then!

When we try to understand their behaviour we give them more humanity than they deserve.

Paedophiles are sub-human. If a dog savages a child then we destroy it. So why is it any different for these monsters?

What annoys me is when a 16yr old is convicted under the legislation for sleeping with a 15yr old for example, as that's the only option open to the judges, it ruins lives.

Indeed, I would rather 10 potential paedophiles were prevented, somehow, of realising their intentions than one was hanged to satisfy a baying mob.  Lock 'em up, yes, but let's learn about what it is that drives them so we can avert more actually offences.

No, we try to prevent future offending by them and others.

The great thing about independence is that it would give us a chance to have a real debate about the subject. At the moment it's all semantics.

Throw it open to a referendum.

Knowing the Isle of Man was a safe place for children would be a massive attraction for families with children. It would also be a massive disincentive for paedophiles and their kind from moving/visiting here. Win win.

A referendum isn't a debate.

How do you secure a safe place for children without understanding how the paedophile pipeline works? Taking your approach will pick off those found guilty, not those waiting in line.

It would be interesting to know if we have a particular problem or if it is kind of in line with levels in the UK.

You're assuming the island is awash with paedophiles though? I think you'll find that we are no worse, or no better than anywhere else. We may have better detection rates, possibly because we have a police force which isn't swamped with various criminal activities, a small close community and our own self proclaimed paedo hunter?
