Mission
Assuming there was CCTV. Was it all along the same road, or different roads? There's not an awful lot of CCTV in Ramsey outside of Parliament Street - some along the Quay and around Market Square etc but if it's anywhere else, it's well disguised. If this was on a housing estate or a residential road I very much doubt there will be CCTV footage unless a homeowner has it installed as part of their security system. thebees
You are mental. No, I do not think they should get an award, they should be caught and dealt with by the police and courts, that is what happens in a civilised society (although having watched CBS realitys Cops shows I'm beginning to question Americas civility). How come people are so stupid they cannot sand down their damage and respray it, use a bit of filler if necessary, or is it all about "My car is well nice and better than yours?" - hmmmm you do have to admit, a car is just a car, some turn heads - soooooo what? 25k if you go via the insurance £25 if you do it yourself. Maybe some people don't want their car to look like it's been resprayed by someone with a bit of sandpaper and filler. How do you suppose body shops repair body work? It is a time consuming job but it is not hard, if I can do it I'm sure most people would be able to, if they tried. Wooley, I did not say you should tolerate such behaviour, I said the police should deal with it and birching people is violent and wrong.
Pierrot Lunaire
I don't see why filler should be necessary, there was no mention of dents in the report, just paint damage. Any idiot could do it. (No reflection on you thebees) It'll never be as good as the original of course, but the same goes for any paint shop.
thebees
I don't mind chuck, I've thick skin as well as a thick head I thought they might want to use filler to get the finish good, I do not know about modern car paint but in the olden days they'd put about an 1/8" of paint on so if you wanted the finish to be level with the original paint filler would have been the way to do it. Shit, I sound like a body shop worker now, the feds will think I'm touting for business and that it was me what did do the spray anti-paining. But it wasn't. Stu Peters
Miss Bees, much as I adore you, I have to say you are completely wrong on every count in this thread, morally, philosophically and with relation to car body repairs.
Gizo
I think if you actually see the damage that has been done to these cars, a little bit of sand paper and a can of dulux won't do it. The cars will need professional car spraying. It wasn't a split hose from a passing vehicle, if some how it can manage to damage three sides of a vehicle. Oh, it's only a car, statements, well it's only a house, it's only a dog, it's only etc etc etc. it's criminal damage and they should be caught and dealt with accordingly. Without decent equipment (which body shops have) and a good level of experience (which body shops have) and the space to strip a car properly (which body shops have) you're going to end up with a shit job. woolley
Wooley, I did not say you should tolerate such behaviour, I said the police should deal with it and birching people is violent and wrong. This is errant nonsense. You have to deal with such lowlife in the only way they understand. Make them suffer in the same way they would have others suffer and this will earn their respect or at least their compliance whilst discouraging their ilk from similar activity. Anything else they take as weakness and they simply laugh at you. These people are bullies and they need to be taught a lesson.

Well I could say the same about people who refuse to pay for their PRS licence, what with me being a member and that. People like you that is.... ; )) But hey ho, some people just are as they are......

thebees
Absolutely hilarious - f'in petrol heads All I can think is that you've never really tried. How specialised can sand paper get? Ooooh special sand paper and a magic buffer. Woolley are you a vicar? I very much doubt the intention of the perpetrators was personally malicious. It is a shame they're getting so much publicity, I knew some criminals who kept a scrap book of their court appearances and such like, a front page of this would be worthy of a frame to some. Are you being serious Bees about car paintwork repairs? Yes the pros use sandpaper and the the rest you mention but it requires years of training and skill to be able to spray paint a car to close to its original finish. Geeesh! You dont drive a pink Citroen 2CV with a flower paint job do you? I have not seen that car on the island for a while and it just struck me that you seem to have done a bit of car painting in the past and that 2CV came to mind.................................................
