thebees
No, I have tried it and I didn't do a great job but, had I been bothered I could have done a much better job, bit like glossing woodwork. I'm rarely totally serious on here, unless I'm talking about music. I'll give you troll biker boy!!
Lisenchuk
I think your feeding the troll now Blade : ) Anyone who thinks spraying paint is easy has obviously never tried it... As the old saying goes,"If yo can piss, you can paint", unfortunately some people don't piss that well either.
daisy
Absolutely hilarious - f'in petrol heads All I can think is that you've never really tried. How specialised can sand paper get? Ooooh special sand paper and a magic buffer. Woolley are you a vicar? I very much doubt the intention of the perpetrators was personally malicious. It is a shame they're getting so much publicity, I knew some criminals who kept a scrap book of their court appearances and such like, a front page of this would be worthy of a frame to some. daisy
My car is not flash, nor new, nor super expensive, nor am I a petrolhead...but I saved hard to get it..luckily I was not affected but if somebody told me to just get a bit of sandpaper and splosh on some paint I would be livid at the dismissal of the gravity of the offence ..I have no experience in car bodywork nor would I want to gain it because some moron defaced and damaged my property through no fault of mine
Pierrot Lunaire
Anyone who thinks spraying paint is easy has obviously never tried it... It's piss easy. You've just got to be patient and build up the layers. I've done it loads of times. Both with a compressor and a can.
woolley
. Woolley are you a vicar? Been accused of many things but that's a first. I've decided I'm feeding the troll too.
thesultanofsheight
Miss Bees, much as I adore you, I have to say you are completely wrong on every count in this thread, morally, philosophically and with relation to car body repairs. I have to agree with you there Stu. My car still has battle scars from a screwdriver incident 3 years ago - luckily I have a crap car and couldn't give a crap that it still looks a mess 3 years on. But with a £350 insurance excess why the hell should it cost me £350 because some prick pissed up on White Lightening decided to damage half the cars in my street? Pierrot Lunaire
With the greatest respect, what does Stu know about it? If memory serves me correctly by his own admission he is completely useless at anything to do with motorised vehicles beyond driving them. (Some may question his ability to do that very well, but I doubt he would... ; )) ) I'm glad none of these targeted cars were owned by me, but if they had been and in the event of not being able to claim on anybody else's insurance there is no way I'd lose my no claims bonus over it. DIY for the win.
molly
My dad used to paint the Morris 1000 every easter. Hand painted that is. such a top job some of the new Bentley's have a similar mat finish.
P.K.
Car paint finishes, like beautiful women, only improve with age. Sure you can fill, rub down etc etc to your heart's content but the REAL skill is in matching the bodge re-spray to the rest of the vehicle. To the experienced eye I don't believe it can ever be a proper match. And before all the tree-huggers start bleating that "it's just a car" there's nothing wrong with pride of ownership in something good-looking that catches the eye. Which these low-lifes have ruined forever. As NTNON once said "Off with the goolies!"

Mission
I very much doubt the intention of the perpetrators was personally malicious. It is a shame they're getting so much publicity, I knew some criminals who kept a scrap book of their court appearances and such like, a front page of this would be worthy of a frame to some. You're such a tease on here at times, bees. I've read that being birched was a badge of honour back in the day too. A bullet to the head is a much more effective solution quite frankly - at the very least it stops the scum from spewing out another dozen scumbags. I'd definitely recommend firing up Demand5 and viewing this weeks episode of Classic Car Rescue to see just how difficult a respray is though. Guy that knows about engines claiming he's not sprayed a car for 30 years shows just how shit he is in comparison to the guy he fired who does the job day in, day out - I especially enjopyed his mottled effect on the wheels he'd foprgotten to cover - he might need a look at a paint chart too if he thinks he's actually applying British Racing Green to that MGB GT
ballaughbiker
I think one or two on here are on a wind up mission saying spray painting is easy. The old building trade saying of "if you can piss etc etc" refers to brush application to property which is easy. Proper vehicle spray painting now requires a minimum of 3 spray guns (one for the primer(s), one for the basecoat and one for the clearcoat), an airfed mask and a compressor big enough to run both (at least 25 cfm which usually means a 3 phase supply not found in domestic properties). The premises require positive vapour extraction again which the average back street Douglas garage won't have You just build up the layers??? ha ha you'll be telling us next that you can be a dentist if you have a black and decker. kokorito
strange how this thread started off talking about yobs vandalising cars but has now turned into a discussion on how stupid some people are for not having the ability to repaint their cars themselves. Albert Tatlock
Senseless. Whoever did this should be facing a lengthy jail sentence for 50 cases of criminal damage. At least 3 years IMO.
