Hmmm, at least two of the officers were armed and carrying rifles ...

Rumour has it a civil servant had just taken early retirement and wanted his MARS payment in cash and paid into IOM bank.

So, an armed operation then?

This is about right. We were always pretty good at keeping these sort of jobs under the radar. Though you'd expect that any journo reading this thread would have called the cops by now to get the story.

I'm not sure that 2 marked vehicles and in one of them two officers holding rifles is "keeping it under the radar" - They had been there on 3 consecutive work days and a dog van was also there yesterday morning!

They’ll catch Stu Peters getting his English milk order any day soon I’m sure.

Common theme seems to be when the G4S van is outside the Bank.  They only seem to be there in the mornings and at lunchtime.  I don't recall seeing G4S there at lunchtimes before.

Guessing maybe a big deposit of cash at IOM Bank?  Is it used as a repository for Manx Currency?  Perhaps deliveries of new Manx Notes & Coins that have just been minted?

Maybe there has been a tip off about a cash in transit robbery? Or maybe they’re just training in case of such an eventuality? Or maybe they’re just ensuring the latest overtime cash they’ve early gets to the bank safe and sound?

or then again, maybe non of the above, and we’ll never know for sure.

Interesting. Armed cops on the streets, on a regular basis, is newsworthy and far from routine. There must be some pretty compelling intelligence to suggest something was going to go off.

where the officer authorising the deployment has reason to suppose that officers may have to protect themselves or others from a person who:

is in possession of, or has immediate access to, a firearm or other potentially lethal weapon, or

is otherwise so dangerous that the deployment of armed officers is considered to be appropriate, or

as an operational contingency in a specific operation (based on the threat assessment), or

for the destruction of animals which are dangerous or are suffering unnecessarily.

Don't think they will be shooting Wallabies, unless they have moved from Onchan to Douglas.

I was thinking of asking the officers, but tapping on the window of the vehicle didn't seem like a good idea, Where is IOM Police Media relations and the Isle of Man media when you need them !
