It's too difficult when you're still relying on these.

It actually costs more to be poor. Quite why they’re charging people extra to pay by installments doesn’t make much sense when they’re likely the ones that have to pay be installments. 3
TheTeapot
It's because they're absolute bastards, all of them. When you're earning well in excess of £1000 per week and you only listen to similarly well renumerated management when coming up with your latest schemes, then you have no fucking connection with 'the poor' Take take take. 5
cissolt
Good to see a politician speak out about the proposed increases. Tax those who can afford it, not those already struggling. Can we expect to see the Manx labour party speaking out against another tax increase for working people?

Isn’t he whining about the extra cost of paying by installments? Most people have no issues with electric vehicles paying car tax & most would like them paying the same as ice cars. Tax generally would need to increase for inflation with no increase for 3 years
Non-Believer
Govt's primary (if not only) concern is its own financial survival. If it had needed a 20% hike it would have imposed it with no qualms. It knows and can entertain no other way and is incapable of recognising that it is in a now shrinking economy. Stu Peters' responses on these boards show just how far he has turned IMHO.

I’m sure Messiah Thomas will be on to launch a point by point rebuttal. No doubt he will be doing the same to @Amadeuswho was on the NPM, and of which I do agree with. The issue of vehicle tax rises is purely a vehicle to raise IOMG extra revenue.

Why don’t you think wealthy electric vehicle owners like Frank shouldn’t pay car tax like everyone else? 2
Non-Believer
The about turn can't go unseen though. The zero or low tax for EVs was instigated as reward and/or encouragement for EV takeup, protecting the environment, the biosphere etc etc. The environmental way forward. Now despite all these environmental benefits, they're to start being taxed the same as everything else. What does that tell us?
2112
EV owners paying VED is fine, but at the same time IOMG are supposed to be encouraging more EVs usage. If you tax them to death and not provide the infrastructure, then people will just buy hydrids, whilst cleaner but defeating the point of the exercise. Besides VED on EVs will probably be the same rate as most petrol/diesel cars, within 7 years when sales of new petrol/diesel cars outlawed. It’s not demonizing wealthy people but everyone I know who owns an EV can well afford to pay full road tax on their car. They’re luxury toys in most cases and the early adopters have mostly bought them on that basis. They don’t need to be incentivized to buy them they want to buy them because of the warm glow of smugness they get from driving them around. People in flats won’t be buying EVs as they can’t charge them at home, people in social housing won’t be buying EVs as there’s no charging points on social estates. Most people on low incomes won’t be buying EVs as their housing set up will be unsuitable to provide a means of charging them. So that leaves a mostly affluent buyer base who can well afford to cough up. 8
