John Wright
I’m very liberal, and I’m sure lots on here think I’m woke. Somethings are too odd, even for me. Im booked to see ABBA Voyage next week. Got the pre show e-mail with a list of do’s and dont’s, including Please do not wear so-called ‘Afro’ wigs These wigs are culturally insensitive and not appropriate to be worn as fancy dress. If any guests are wearing this style of wig they will be respectfully asked to remove them as a condition of entry to the arena. Not sure what I’m going to tell the Afro Caribbean friend I’m going with.
quilp
Does he wear a wig then, your mate..? And, why would any of the audience be wearing an afro wig to an ABBA gig, what's the relevance..? Just sounds a bit odd rather than 'woke.'

Just seems really weird as you say. Although that’s not the point, really If he had short hair and decided to wear an Afro wig, how would that be cultural appropriation? The blanket ban would itself be discriminatory. PS. Not an ABBA fan. But was offered the opportunity and want to see the technology in action. I am going to guess that people may choose to dress up in Disco gear including wearing big hair and permed/afro wigs. https://www.partypacks.co.uk/collections/70s-disco-fever-fancy-dress

Anyone
What about a curly perm ( all the rage in the 80’s ). Will they be allowed?
John Wright
On 1/13/2024 at 6:55 PM, Anyone said: What about a curly perm ( all the rage in the 80’s ). Will they be allowed? About half the audience had dressed up in sequinned skull caps, glitter/sequin jackets, platforms, extreme flares. No afros. Thought ABBA were more 70’s than 80’s. It’s not advertised as dress up. It was technically brilliant. My brain had difficulty accepting they weren’t real. There is a live backing band and singers. The lights, layers and effects were some of the best I’ve ever seen. Venue is crap location. Pudding Mill Lane DLR can’t cope with the mass exodus. Catering is very expensive. Loos were blocked. Once in the venue is well designed, accessible.
philwebs
I saw Bjorn Again a long time ago. Fully approved lookey likey band, possibly as good as the originals. Australian and look as if they only tour out there: https://www.bjornagain.com.au/ I think there are similar bands. Look at the review and take your pick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3CSFCP7eaI
Declan
I saw Bjorn Again at the Reading Festival in 1992. They were more like an ABBA inspired band than your traditional tribute act.
