I'm not aware it was ever specified exactly who would be there.  But my understanding was it was going to be a mix of food van types, pop-up booths of local restaurants and the artisan producers of Loughtan sausage and the like.

Kinda like the food festival they have at the Villa Gardens the last few years.

ETA Just seen this...

The Manx Food Market Traders’ Association had hoped to host the event featuring stalls and food trucks offering breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as live music and entertainment.

A marquee area with seating, a stage area and a pop-up fine dining venue inside St Ninian’s church itself also formed part of the plans. The association had wanted to run the event from May 27 to June 8 as part of a ‘celebration of Manx produce and hospitality’.

Would it have caused any problems over a two week period? It may have trod on some toes, and caused competition?

Would permission have been granted if there were no food trucks, and only traders selling chocolates, food products and artisan gifts like candles?

Because for some reason that I am yet to understand, despite the fact we appear to have more than sufficient food vendors/trucks etc that are Manx (and would keep their earnings on the IOM and pay tax here) who would happily occupy the Grandstand it appears preferable to ship in a load of UK caterers.   Its food vans for god sake, they're not exactly a highly specialised and sought after industry.

And then it went to Planning and we all know what happens then.  A bunch of dicks and a bunch of pussies have a competition pissing on batteries.

Do we have local food vans that aren’t already busy in TT?  I doubt it.

They might not be at the expensive pitches at the grandstand, but they are sorted about campsites and other events.  If any are parked up doing nothing, then the people who own them obviously don’t want to work.

That is not to say this isn’t a stupid decision, but there is no way a good vendor who wants a pitch over TT is going to be left unable to find one.

It sounds to me that there is no joined up thinking within IOMG, no clear directions and clueless. This planning application was well advertised, and ideas, and suggestions along with practical help could have been provided to the Manx Food Traders, like your suggestion.

Mr R Callister, MHK Chairman, Mr P Young, Mr S Skelton, Mr M Warren, Mrs H Hughes, Miss A Betteridge and Mr P Whiteway.

I can see the name of at least one arrogant, self serving nosher in that list.

Other than that, how much "Planning Experience and Qualification" exists in that team that should overturn the recommendations of a qualified Planning Officer?

There was a time when the TT represented a rare time of opportunity that was promoted for all local concerns to benefit from. Times appear to have changed.

According to IOM Newspapers:

[...] the scheme was unanimously rejected by members of the Isle of Man Government’s planning committee despite the festival being recommended for approval by the planning officer.

Among their concerns was the impact the event would have on residents living near the church as well as traffic and the fact there were to be similar facilities at the official Isle of Man TT Grandstand. Chairman of the Manx Food Market Traders’ Association said the group was now working with the Department of Enterprise and looking at ways to ‘reformat and restructure’ the event.

Sounds like can kicking.

Starship Enterprise wouldn’t care less for the MFMTA …………… like it cares for hospitality, pubs, restaurants and cafes.

All appointed by the government, so fiercely independent. Ex civil servants, retired bankers, a real cross-section of society.

People would go to it to save money on a bite to eat.

Give over.

It’s a popular sporting event that people travel from all over the world to attend.

The food is cheap compared to any other motorsport event I have been to.

If they want to save money they can buy a sandwich at the garage or make their own.  A sausage roll at the garage is about £2
