Fred the shred Posted February 23 Author Share Posted February 23 That is true but to openly state that she will not promise to support the CM whom she had a say in electing, the public didn’t, smacks of being hostile to his policies which is not very helpful neither is it in the best interests of the Island. It just sounds petulant and childish. She gets too much public money to indulge in flounces or hissy fits. Get over it Julie you still have a job and a paycheck. Whilst that is true, it doesn't look like the mishandling of those issues were the cause or she should have been asked to step down when the swimming pool shite hit the fan (once being infortunate, twice being careless). It looks like incompetence can be tolerated but not disagreement. I wondered about the Peel at the time and how much of the direction of it came from Edge (who must have realised what a lot of made-up tosh the whole thing was) and how much was pressure from Cannan and the Cabinet Office running scared of any sort of 'controversy'. There was an interesting question to Cannan from Moorhouse in the 30 Jan Keys[1]: What advice he has received from the Corporate Communications team, and what has been learnt, with regard to the first news releases from the Department of Education, Sport and Culture about (a) the relationships and sex education curriculum and (b) funding for the Southern Swimming Pool. Cannan just waffled in his usual indignant manner and didn't really answer. He also loftily dismissed a supplementary from Callister asking Does the Chief Minister agree that we should start to change and move away from a culture of issuing press releases towards five o’clock on a Friday evening, which then allows things to snowball over a weekend? by stating that they had to be issued when the news dictates, which rather ignores the fact that the SSP press release was based on a Government report and so could have been produced any time and that if you're going to take an 'as and when' line, then you need to be available to cope with the results. Clearly the feeling is that it's the media's job to print what they're told and not ask any impudent questions. But the interesting thing is that the question was to Cannan which suggests that the handling of both was done in Cabinet Office. He's not replying to say that the decisions were internal to DESC, just trying to avoid any personal responsibility and saying he's not sure of what he had or hadn't seen until he's asked someone else. So decisions may not have been entirely in Edge's hands, especially in how things were handled. There also seems to be a lobby within the civil service and DESC that is against any RSE at all unless delivered by Christian charities from outside the school. Hence the fact that the programme still seems to be suspended despite all those expensive reports confirming that nothing happened. And despite the fact that we know such lessons have for example helped reveal child abuse.
