Brexit Is Reversible...

Given the choice between Referendum II and parlimentary vote to withdraw notification, I can see attractions for either one.  Tossing the decision back to "the people" might be politically attractive but runs the risk of another leave decision, albeit the chances of this happening are decreasing over time.  A parlimentary vote is potentially more predictable, but could lead to parties being torn apart.

Tut tut. We couldn't have that, could we? Particularly if it turned out to be more decisive than the original one. Still, they could have another one and another one, in true EU style, until the plebs come up with the right answer. :whistling:

In some ways it would be a good idea to have another referendum, people are more informed now than they were at the time of the original one.

This.

Some commentary seems to indicate that a more decisive result could ...erm... result, given the evidence of what a clusterfrak has happened from the attempts to figure out what to do so far.

Theoretically there could be a referendum to ratify the decision when the terms of the exit are known. Probably would have been the sensible course of action, if the first referendum had been "the people instruct the Govt to make preparations and enter into discussions to Exit the EU. Upon completion of these negotiations, hold a second referendum to ratify Britain's exit"

But there wasn't and there's no great groundswell of people calling for a second referendum. Probably if one was held people would think we'd gone so far down the road to Brexit that there's no going back.

If there was a second referendum remain would win comfortably, purely because of how apparent it has become that absolutely noone has a clue of how to actually leave.

People are not more informed. All that has happened is that there has been much establishment squealing and scare tactics from the media. Totally negative coverage. How to actually leave? Just leave and also leave it to business to sort it out on a "we don't do tariffs if you don't" basis. Business always finds its way. Politicians and bureaucrats never do. They just complicate matters and add cost.

Those bloody politicians and faceless bureaucrats bringing in regulations to safeguard the populace.

You mean democracy is reversible? Well, of course it is. However, the British people voted to leave and so we should leave. Also, HM Queen Elizabeth II has already confirmed we will leave.

If the two major political parties continue to betray the British people, I predict a massive shift to the right in British politics as people won't stand for any more of this.

And 84% of votes in the general election this year were cast for candidates standing on a Brexit platform. The electorate could easily have voted for the LibDems who everyone knows are the party of Brussels. They didn't do that and the LibDems were virtually invisible which, of course, is the natural order of things.
