Derek Flint
Whether we “fiscally get away with it” or not is a really big question. The firefighting on the health side is now at the vaward, but we need to be giving serious consideration to how we spend money and raise money across our Government, and local authorities in the recovery phase. That may well last a decade, and even if we come out of this relatively unscathed, with something left in reserve, prudence and austerity may well become the new norm. I found these this morning. An application by Ramsey Town Commissioners to construct three beach huts. https://services.gov.im/planningapplication/services/planning/planningapplicationdetails.iom?ApplicationReferenceNumber=20/00310/B An application by the DOI to build a new Vehicle Testing Centre https://services.gov.im/planningapplication/services/planning/planningapplicationdetails.iom?ApplicationReferenceNumber=20/00323/B The first one is most certainly spaff. The latter is something which is likely a nice to have in real terms. And it would be especially so if that function was decanted to the private sector. So what would Future Mann look like? NoTail
I would be in favour of ripping up the tramlines and finishing off the prom with a quick coat of tarmac. There certainly aren't any holes big enough to swallow a bus like we were told.

They will treat this as a bump in the road, just making the inevitable crashing into the buffers a little earlier than they would have hoped. Did you see David Christian's reaction to calls from shops for rates relief during the lock down? "Council can't afford it." Doesn't matter where the money comes from so long as it comes.
