It doesn't help of course that we have had the poorest politicos as ministers overseeing health for the past three administrations !

It's the "poisoned chalice" of politics...

It definitely reads like manxcare wrote the mandate.

Makes you wonder what the DHSC actually do all day (other than just sitting there between Manx Care and Tynwald, of course…)

Probably Jonathan Michael’s who wrote original report was involved in drafting it

makes you wonder who actually tracks these action plans, because, just like the Island Plan, they appear to be a work of fantasy.

As a bean counter I do like the notion of a one liner 'Manx Care mandate' being 96% of the budget with no further explanation/breakdown (which I couldn't see much expansion on the 'Manx Care' various plans either). Surely most of the objectives etc. relate to performance vs funding - seems strange there is not a core mandate and then allocations against some of these improvement activities?

Prescription charges in the UK will £9.90 for a single prescription from the 1st May. The pre-payment card charges are also increasing.

We pay £3.85 per single prescription.

Would it be unreasonable to be asked to pay a fiver for ours?

Probably not, but the beaurecracy around precription charges probably costs more than the money it brings in here. So its not impossible to do away with precription charges altogether if we are prepared to 'trim the fat' so to speak

There’s an ugly rumour that 90% of prescriptions are free anyway (elderly, on benefits, chronic/long term, etc) - if that’s true, might as well make ‘em ALL free…
