Omobono
big loss to the farmers who have been growing milling wheat suitable for bread baking ,and other cereals ,might just as well close Laxey mills as well, unless someone is very clever in the Agriculture department ,and they can move quickly to encourage the growers in the North to produce something that can be used for breakfast cereals or feed for horses and other animals , the lot will go into meltdown Our desire to be self sufficient in cereal and bread production is dying as we speak a Manx tradition gone forever ! Gladys
Weren't imports of bread prohibited, like meat, ice cream, milk, and other stuff? Perhaps a bit of protectionist policy would help?

The Steam Packet issue was different. Affordable, renewable energy is what they need to throw money at right now - especially to secure power intensive food production

It needs to be saved if we are to have a sustainable food policy 3
Kopek
Didn't the Duncans take it over after being employed for some time? Who were the original owners?

finlo
I think the writing was on the wall when Jimmy D died the family weren't interested in carrying it on and with all the price rises being the final nail in the coffin. 2

I remember beer was also subject to restrictions.
Kopek
I think it is possible that someone could take it over and modernise the production, stay fresh for the mass market and specialists for the discerning??? Would need a major Tesco supply though.

Dave Hedgehog
I'm no big fan of Ramsey Bakery bread but given the whole local sustainability stuff and impact on the supply chain it is something I wouldn't object to a bit of gov support. Certainly better than chucking cash at farmers not to do farming/build holiday cottages anyway
