What football and why would they be from Liverpool? If you're referring to the FC IOM game on Monday it's a team from Greater Manchester.

I’m just passing on what was told to me. I thought that’s what these sort of forums were of.

What happened then?

I played for an IoM team during the Easter sports "festival" back in the 70s when I was still at school.  I've often wondered why it doesn't seem to happen any more.  The only thing that still seems to be happening is a running festival.

Are you sure it was a students sports weekend?  The two teams I was involved in playing against certainly weren't made up of students(!).

(Does the Whit sports "festival" still go on?)

See answer above and also cost of getting here for teams became an issue when there was events sprung up in UK. Also sadly there was lots of trouble latterly , witnessed some of it, between teams so I think with less teams and issues Manx FA stopped it. Also it coincided with Lido not being available for the big 5 aside event .Also the big rugby festival down at and around Port y Chee had issues with the beer tent and numbers .

The police have put out a very detailed report of the tragic event , a lady on holiday from Merseyside was assaulted at 9.10 pm last night they have arrested a man who was known to her they had walked from Jaks to the Casino with a young couple and small child.    The police are appealing for anyone seeing this group of people to contact them.

There's a football team that visit every Easter have been doing for about 100 years think they're called collegegate from Liverpool. They play local teams in between visiting the pubs. Not saying these people have anything to do with them but teams do come over for easter

If that person is telling the truth it kind of just sums up social media. I know if my mum had been killed the last thing on my mind would be trawling Facebook commenting on it

You'd think so wouldn't you,but never underestimate the power of attention seeking dimwits.

People have a right to know, within certain boundaries, what is happening in their community. That is what creates a community and also fosters the policing by consent mantra we hear.

Search the publicity guidelines used by the UK police, they refer to the need for openness and transparency, acknowledging the balancing act with other aspects such as investigation.

It is also why we have a free press.

I don't need to know, ie it has no impact for me, but want to know, that is the point.

Spoiler alert.

They use the same media guidance.

The media strategy is under the control of the senior investigating officer. Its part of the investigative process.

Looks like he has had it bang on from.what I've read.

Yes , Liverpool Collegiate Old Boys  have been visiting for absolute years since there visits for the Easter Festival years back. Playing Laxey AFC tomorrow which they have done for around 50 years. Not the same guys I might add . Was talking to a couple of them last year and they were spending an absolute fortune , hundreds of pounds , on flight over , Palace hotel and beer/food etc.

Ask Exocet.

I think the student sports festival grew out of the Easter Hockey Festival. That was very popular, I see there are a few teams over now.

Oh, and Exocet, perhaps for those here that aren't all-knowing 'manx', and back on topic re football teams. There was a supporter of a visiting team was seriously assaulted outside Sam Webbs, unprovoked, quite recently by a local.

Anyway, this is all somewhat off topic but not irrelevant.
