The problem was that 'old fashioned' bullies used corporal punishment as a badge of honour and to reinforce their 'hardness' to those they chose to bully. Agree the social media and psychological bullying is by far the worst as it is inescapable and can pervade the victim's whole life.

The corporal punishment question can be handily rephrased to "Do you think it makes kids less violent to be taught that violence is an acceptable solution?" thommo2010
Sad fact of life is bullying has always happened and always will happen whether it be in school or at a workplace it isn't a new thing. There literally is no consequences for kids anymore those that do the bullying most probably don't want to be at school so suspending them isn't punishment Edited April 24 by thommo2010

Because that's what corporal punishment is. Al lot of people would agree with kids being taught that. Me being one of them. If I saw someone hurting my wife or kids, or a friend, or a colleague, or a stranger and I was able to physically intervene and hurt them back then I would. I think most people would. There's a difference between self defense (or defense of another) and beating people as a punishment.
Willy Brennan
Headteachers on island are short on funding. Coming up with good solutions to prevent poor behaviour and bullying situations is becoming increasingly difficult. Coupled with that, recruiting good, experienced staff is harder than ever (some of the best staff at secondary school level have been leaving the profession altogether to pursue better paid jobs in the private sector) and this has an inevitable impact on the quality of lessons and pastoral care. I also agree with Thommo that suspending a student often has little impact.

Yeah and nobody has been killed by walking out in front of a car twice, doesn't make it an especially reasonable way to teach kids the green cross code.
