Considering the amount of money the Govt has spunked on bullshit projects over the last few years, it would seem like a reasonable cost vs potential return.  We definitely won't see a return on the £5M spent on the Horsie Trams.

Returning the money to the investors is certainly a novel method of fleecing 'us'.

Come on @The Phantom you are normally one of the smart ones on here. Now you have gone all deflection on us. They have returned the money to the investors because they have no choice. Was it really the investors money they were after or was there a bigger prize?

I genuinely hope I am wrong and they engage with the IOM gov properly and they make a proper arrangement between themselves. Sadly though, I have a hunch that my hope will be unfounded.

Let's see if a proper established outfit comes along and does a proper job.

Enter the headline: "The IOM Government announces the creation of the Department of Drilling."

"This new prospect of drilling for gas off our own shores to benefit the future of the Island, will be the responsibility of this new gov department. Headed up by his new role, Alex Brindley moves from Manx Radio to take on the exciting opportunity. Ministerial steer will come from David Ashford a renowned expert in Offshore Drilling, who has read 30 leading articles on the subject."

"Initial costs are thought to be around £763 million, but the benefits could mean a positive return one day. David Ashford commented: 'We expect it to be a Tourist draw too with people interested in Offshore Drilling, which will help the economy, along with extra jobs and that means more people buying pasties in shops.' Alex Brindley will continue to host Alex in the afternoon."

You're not smiling, because you know it could happen.

Referring to the Manx Radio interview this morning, @Chris Thomas seriously you don't think face to face meetings are the best way of dealing with things?!

Why would the company feel it needed to act as it did if the department had "greatly communicated" ? A face to face meeting as they requested over 8 months ago would surely have helped iron out issues and misunderstandings.

You state that there is a cost to the public purse in terms of drafting relevant legislation. If you'd have had a face to face meeting with the Company since they made their variation request (and since they conditionally secured financing), I believe you would have discovered that they are proposing even to contribute to the costs of bringing in the legislation.

Manifestly obviously, the possibility of £Billions of additional tax revenue is definitely in the best interest of the Manx Public, it can not be argued otherwise, so I do hope you can now come to a considered, speedy decision to take the project forward with the urgency it should command.

I found Minister Thomas interview rather predictable, full of waffle and very defensive. I get the impression that there is opposition to the idea of drilling by Crogga from within IOMG and the establishment, hence the go slow attitude and procrastination. It’s a case of trying to please different parties - those who want to expoit the islands natural resources. Those who are eco loons will be happy as well.

'Face to face meetings can be misinterpreted' (Chris Thomas). Never thought I'd hear a Manx politician say that, let alone the minister of what's currently the Island's number one issue. If he can't meet with Crogga then give the job to someone who will. This bullshit just insults the people's intelligence.

I'm more inclined to believe that the AGs office needs specialist drafting assistance before committing. If that's the case then they should say so and be upfront with everyone, including the taxpayer!

the minister says that

"The infrastructure minister insists his department has 'communicated greatly' with Crogga over drilling regulations in the past months, despite the organisation saying talks had failed to take place."

So he says that they have "communicated greatly " whatever that means but thinks that face to face meetings can be misinterpreted .

So he doesn't  want to meet them face to face despite having communicated greatly.

What kind of total bollocks is that .??????  He seems to have an agenda that he doesn't want any drilling or any gas,.... if  it exists.

If he thinks the whole Crogga  plan is rubbish   why doesnt he come out and say so .

He usually uses 1000 words when a few would do, usually to achieve the same rubbish outcome .    The Prom , the airport , just about every DOI project . For goodness sake he is making Manx politics look ever more ridiculous by the day

new generation CS again and seemingly not for the best again. in the olden days a Minister would proudly state - wrote to on XX or YY times, the last time was ZZ. and very definitely and proudly - met with - it is the most basic CS thing to meet people whenever possible. The CS behind this isn't helping the Minister one bit.

Up until very recently when I had clients, contacts or businesses looking to do something on the Isle, I could proudly and confidently state that if they needed Govt input or liaison, the Govt representatives were easy to contact, deal with and meet. In fact it was probably of the Island's unique selling points, to our forward looking, agile and business friendly officials.

What the fuck happened?

I'm sure pretty much everyone who isnt an introvert or a clown would also assure Mr Thomas that a face to face meeting is exactly the way to ensure no misunderstandings and gauge people properly.  Exactly the opposite of what he is stating.

Correct... you can't beat eye-balling someone over a boardroom table and watch the body language as to whether they're telling you porkies or not.

That’s pretty much what David Ashford said on the Mannin Line the other day.

I've just been hearing on MR News that DOI have just received (yet) another FOI bollocking over refusing to release details on Crogga negotiations following a request, nothing on the MR webpage yet though. All sorts of spurious excuses spouted including necessary workload.
