I like that it's been done, we should have more murals and colour in town. I'm not mad keen on this one, though, it's telling that the can't say what it is or what it symbolises. A bit like giant doodle. Still, I can't like everything and it's better to attempt something creatively ambitious and fall short than never to try. The green face represents mother nature, being consumed by global capitalism, represented by the demonic feline creature. The demon's antlers / horns are trees, showing that each year its power grows, and each year its destruction grows stronger, and ironically, without mother nature the demon would be powerless. The one eyed snakes are depicted in an aggressive raised arm position, indicating that men are behind this destruction. The yellow triangle is a pyramid, showing that this has been the way the world has been run since the earliest civilisations. The solitary eye at the top is overseeing everything, continually observing the destruction (keeping an eye on it) until judgement day.

Shake me up Judy
It's not art, it's just bollocks. If it's meant to be art then its symbolism is really old hat. I'm against all these street murals; it's mere urban camouflage and just draws attention to the dereliction underneath. It only fools the illiterate. I agree with part of what you say; we absolutely do need more civic art and statuary throughout the Island - both modern and traditional. What we don’t need is more examples of this ugly, amateurish, shit. It has no artistic or visual merit whatsoever. The “Falls Road” analogy is bang on. It creates a very poor ambience. Paint over it. war baby
I can understand the need to paint over quite a lot of the ugly walls in Douglas. But I suggest the Arts Council fund a few cans of white next time, that would freshen the place up a bit. Start with the ugly mural in Westmoreland Street. La Colombe
A moving piece, bravely confronting the issues of mental illness but asking more questions than it answers. The schizophrenic symbolism is rampant throughout. The old vagina dilates, but is the new life there revealed in a better position than the old? Viciously mocking, as it does, those that suffered childhood cruelty; an inevitable result of being born the wrong hue, cruelty that is so often life borne. We can see this reinforced in the loaded smile of the artist. The new vagina remains intact but as a witness to the horror of it's future. The paths are clear. Which one shall be taken? The OCD, pristine safety of the left room? Stable but perhaps a tad dull. Boring even. Or the chaotic excitement of the room on the right with it's heavily hinted at danger and promises of fun and frivolity? And a likely early death. The time to choose is now. Which path shall be chosen?
